So I decided to check out the PROM NIGHT sequels (2,3 and 4) thanks to a handy dvd box set containing all of them, which wasn't too pricey
had medium-to-high hopes for these consdering I'm a big fan of 80s slashers and these are (a) 80s and (b) slashers... well pt4 is'92 but close enough
unfortunately all 3 sequels suck. not in a good way. just low budget amateurish trash of the lowest kind... very tough to sit thru them. part 3 has a kind of Troma-esque parody type feel but fails to amuse, and yet I thought this was the 'best' one of the three sequels.
I think the original PROM NIGHT is a decent slasher that fits well into that early 80s subgenre (I know we're not talking high art here but I do genuinely love this era of slashers)
have any of you seen em, do you rate em?
I did like Hello Mary Lou, Prom Night 2. I thought she made for a decent enough horror villain. It was also one of those box arts that used to terrify me as a kid for some reason, so I might be a little biased there.
haha. this one? (there seem to be a few)

not a VHS artwork but when I was a kid I remember being very freaked out by the front cover of Ozzy Ozborne's Speak Of The Devil, which my cousin had on vinyl
Yeah, that one.
Something about it as a kid just captured my imagination in lots of dark and scary ways.
I actually thought Prom Night 2......mostly because it was a completely different film that had nothing to do with the first film. XD
Prom Night II is the only movie in that whole franchise that's worth a spit.
Prom Night movies rated and ranked
1. Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night II (1987) 3.0 (Good)
2. Prom Night (1980) 2.0 (Fair)
3. Prom Night III: The Last Kiss (1990) 1.0 (Poor)
4. Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil (1991) 0.5 (Very Poor)
5. Prom Night (2008) 0.0 (Awful)
ok consensus seems to be #2 is pretty good, I guess if I decide to watch any of them again it'll be that one
wasn't aware of a 2008 one

Yeah it was made in I what I like to call the edge lord remake decade era.
^ That was bad. Not in a good way. :bluesad:
I only seen the first one, and it bored me to sleep.

hah... with the exception of the MY BLOODY VALENTINE remake (which I may be alone in thinking is superior to the original) I cannot think of one good reason for any post-2000 remake of any 80s slasher to exist

It's kinda alow I admit, but I just enjoy the early 80s ambience and cheesyness of it... also interesting to see Leslie Nielsen in a slasher :)

I know Leslie Nielsen did a lot of non-comedy roles, but it always throws me for a loop when I see him in one.
same here! his character in DAY OF THE ANIMALS is really obnoxious and it's weird to see, from him.
^ Or CREEPSHOW! :buggedout:

oh yeah that's a dark segment
Creepshow was dark, but there was still a bit of over the top tongue and cheek-ness to it. I think Leslie Neilsen was a perfect choice for the role. His guy was evil, but straight forward evil. I think other actors might have tried to put a little bit ore humanity in the role or played it even darker, but he find a perfect middle ground of almost camp evil.
