Title: Opinions on the movie "Tremors?"
Post by: Nick on June 12, 2002, 01:49:58 PM
Since this is my first official thread on this forum (which is absolutely great, by the way) I figured that I would ask about a movie that I was recently thinking about getting on DVD.  I love great bad movies (hey, who doesn't?) and even not-so-great ones (anything with Dolph Lundgren and Jean-Claude Van Damme is pure GOLD) and this movie looked like it falls right in the campy movie variety.  Anyways, is it worth picking up?  Or should I skip it altogether?  If it's worth getting, how's the DVD?  Any help would be appreciated, thanks guys.

I would go on a buy it. It's not a bad movie. As you pointed out, very campy. I loved Fred Ward in this. If you liked the 50's type of sci-fi you'll love this movie.

I loved it.  It is the only movie I have ever seen on the big screen twice on the same day.

...one of the better monster movies of recent years.  Lots of fun.

In other words, I agree with everyone else that's posted so far and really have nothing useful to add.

Depressing.

After seeing all three, I can easily say the first one if the best, and a must-own for ANY movie fan. Which means I need to go buy it...NOW...so I don't just have the edited version that airs on USA.

Tremors 2 is more comedy-based, but the FX are just as good, if not better. I'd say buy it if you like the first one, which you're guaranteed to do.

Tremors 3 is the real s**tstain of the 3. Rent it only for the fact that it's the 3rd film in this series, and the first 5 or so minutes of Burt in Argentina is pretty quality.

"Tremors" is a classic in my library. It is photographic documentation of the only time in recorded history that a man has told a woman he barely knows to get out of her pants, without liquoring her up first, and she did it. And you can't go wrong with Fred Ward, AKA Remo Williams.

Get it! Its is a classic good ol' fashoned monster picture. I liked Tremors 2 and 3, also. Gotta Disagree with Drezzy on pt 3: Back to perfection. While Burt is a better suporting character, as the lead, Gross pulls it off for me. Some good lines, too. "Ass Blaster Blitzkrieg!"

This is probably the best horror film of the 80's. I remember watching it on USA network about 7 years ago for the first time and loved it. It was paced just right, the concept, and the desert. The film just works great.

Well, it looks like a unanimous vote to me.  I'll go ahead and pick Tremors up ASAP, and I'll check out part 2 also a little on down the line.  Thanks a lot for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Mebbe I'm a little off.  No, not about Tremors -- it's a great movie.

But why are you so fired up to BUY a movie, sight unseen, when you can easily RENT it once, see if you like it, and then decide to buy it for your permanent collection?

I mean, if this were a rare Japanese bootleg import that you couldn't rent first, that's be one thing.  But you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a rental copy of Tremors.

And it has Kevin Bacon.
Who was with John Belusi in ANIMAL HOUSE.
Who was with Jack Nicholson in GOING SOUTH.
Who was with Boris Karloff in the RAVEN.
Who was with Bela Lugosi in the 1935 version of the RAVEN.

Lol, that is an awesome way to resurrect an old thread. Kudos, you are the Jedi Master of Bela Lugosi film relations.

It's like Jaws. On land. With tentacles. Which means it's better than Jaws. Because... well... tentacles!

Also, it's like one of the last great American monster movies made before CGI became the status quo.

Long live the Graboids!!!

On a related note, I've always liked Tremors 2 a lot, but after that... bleh.

That film is actually a good one, even according to the critics. It's one of those "bad" flicks that does its genre some justice.
