I'd like to put together a list of '70s science fiction movies to shotgun to get into that mood of exploratory wonder and dystopian chagrin. So far I've got:
Movies I've seen:
Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Soylent Green
Logan's Run
Star Wars
Star Trek The Motion Picture
Escape To Witch Mountain
The Ultimate Warrior
Movies I haven't seen yet, but sounds like they are in the right direction
The Andromeda Strain
The Omega Man
Colossus - The Forbin Project
The Final Programme
Westworld
I won't watch Silent Running again because I will cry my eyes out.
Any more suggestions for a 70s playlist of movies for exploratory wonder and dystopian angst?

this is probably showing my age, but I've never heard of any of those
^LOGAN'S RUN- ahh- cheezy. SILENT RUNNING with Bruce dern and a couple of robots is a classic.
Directed by Douglas Trumbell, who did the F/X for 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY, the first STAR TREK movie, and BLADE RUNNER, and also directed the MAN WHO KILLED HITLER AND THEN THE BIGFOOT!
I never heard of the other one.
Thank you to everyone for the great recommendations, I will do more research into some of the films I haven't heard of.
It's surprising to think that the original Alien movie was released in 1979! Same with Phantasm, it's surprising that it's from the 70s.
The Island of Dr Moreau looks awesome, I gotta check that one out.
As I said in the original post, I won't watch Silent Running. I saw it when I was a kid and was so sad for the little robot watering the pod garden in space that I just won't watch it again.
Night of the Lepus looks GREAT! How can you go wrong with a movie about giant (presumably killer) rabbits?
How could I have forgotten Zardoz? I watched it with my brother when it came on TV in the 90s, we were quoting lines from it for weeks after. The gun is good!
Food of the Gods looks like it might be fun, too.
Demon Seed is in my Tubi playlist, I will definitely get into that!
I saw Woody Allen's Sleeper on TV in the 80s and laughed my butt off. That's another for the list.
Thank you so much, folks. If you have any more recommendations, I'm happy to receive them!

Agreed, but
SILENT RUNNING (1972) is a low action movie.

QUINTET (1979)
PAUL NEWMAN directed by
ROBERT ALTMAN (a flop in its day, strange but interesting)
Hmmm. lessee...
Ah!
GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS (1973) is a z-budget mess about a giant mutated...sheep.
I love it, of course.

Idaho Transfer (1973)
Your mileage may vary on this one. I think it is actually a pretty good movie, just very incompetently made.
TRACK OF THE MOONBEAST (1972) is soooo BAD! In other words- a must see!

I believe it was "rediscovered" sometime in the 1990s. I remember my mail order place did a written piece on it. The tape wasn't cheap, but I bought it anyway. I mean, who wouldn't?
Godmonster is mostly dull and makes for a hard watch. Its so bad I only watched it twice :bouncegiggle:
Does Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (1978) count?
I'm pretty sure no one's mentioned PHASE IV.
Tense, visually arresting, well-acted... w/ good music... and seems likely to have at least partially inspired Alex Garland's ANNIHILATION.
^ I seen that one at the theater back in the day.
