aka 'part 2's (even though they may not have been called that). bad or good, either way, just your personal favourites...
mine, in no order:
UNDER SIEGE 2
TERMINATOR 2
JAWS 2
HALLOWEEN 2
CRITTERS 2
FRIDAY 13TH PART 2
THE OMEN 2 THE HILLS HAVE EYES 2 (1985)
PHANTASM 2
NAKED GUN 2 1/2
THE EXORCIST 2 I STILL KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER
may revise this if someone posts something I forgot about... (THE OMEN 2 will be first to go, I'm not even that big a fan of it)
- as for the 'best sequel ever' GODFATHER PART 2, I respect it (it's all about respect!), but unlike all the films in my list I doubt I'd ever intentionally watch it again
1. the BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935)
2. FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF MAN (1942)
3. REVENGE OF THE CREATURE (1955)
4. WAR OF THE COLASSALL BEAST (1958)
more later...!
(https://i.imgur.com/SqNT8p7.jpg) (https://lunapic.com)
In no particular order:
THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
GODFATHER 2
BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN
FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE
THE ROAD WARRIOR
THE DARK KNIGHT
BATMAN RETURNS
BLADE RUNNER 2049
EVIL DEAD II
DAWN OF THE DEAD
Honorable mention: THE TWO TOWERS (hard to think of it as a "sequel" per se, more of a single movie broken into three parts for time's sake)
^ FOR A FEW DOLLARS MORE? I dunno if I would consider that a sequel, maybe...I dunno.
...and more-
5. DAWN OF THE DEAD (1979)
6. DR. PHIBES RISES AGAIN (1972)
7. the EVIL DEAD II (1987)
8. INFERNO (1980)
9. the DEVIL'S REJECTS (2005)
10. CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989)
(https://i.imgur.com/lHLT84i.gif) (https://lunapic.com)
KILL AND KILL AGAIN
THE GODS MUST BE CRAZY 2
TNNT 2 SECRET OF THE OOZE
SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
STAR TREK THE WRATH OF KHAN
BILLY JACK
THE SOUND OF MUCUS 😉
yeah EVIL DEAD 2 definitely crossed my mind... I think I find it just a bit too crazy, to the point where it detracts from my enjoyment of it (ditto GREMLINS 2)

SILENCE OF THE LAMBS
was not aware this was a sequel, what's the original. MANHUNTER? I thought that was just a different interpretation of the same novel, but I don't really know. I only saw SOTL for the first time last year! definitely better than I expected. I was ready to be totally underwhelmed by it for some reason

10. CHRISTMAS VACATION (1989)
I'm not up on my National Lampoons movies (in fact I don't think I've seen any of them?) but according to wiki this is a "third installment"
^What was the second?
I'm not a big fan either- but I like that one. Me and Tiana watched it every year.
Edit: EUROPEAN VACTION (1985) was second. It sucked. Yer right.
1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
2. Kill Bill: Vol. 2 (2004)
3. Aliens (1986)
4. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
5. Batman Returns (1992)
6. The Conjuring 2 (2016)
7. Blade II (2002)
8. Ghostbusters II (1989)
9. Doctor Sleep (2019)
10. The Road Warrior (1981)
Aliens.
Mad Max 2.
Predator 2.
The Unnamable Returns.
Hmm, could Zulu be considered a sequel to Zulu Dawn? If so then that one. I mean although the movies are not traditional sequels one does follow the events of the other.
Maniac Cop 2.
Terminator 2.
Reanimator 2.
Star Trek II. The Wrath of Khan.
The Dark Knight.

No Manhunter is a separate book and movie about a different serial killer (although they are still in the same series). I thought both Manhunter & Silence... were great books, but boy did the series go downhill after them.
ah okay...
MANIAC COP 2 also crossed my mind, remember that I really enjoyed it (and preferred it to the first one) but it was so long ago I can't really remember much about it
^ MANIAC COP 2 was much better than the first one, IMHO. It was where the crazy cop teamed up with a Manson type guy and broke into a prison to set all the convicts free.

Zulu is about the Battle of Rorke's Drift and Zulu Dawn is, about the Battle of Isandlwana which took place before Rorke's Drift.

I see it as a sequel because Lambs repeats many of the same characters as Manhunter and Will Graham is referred to in Lambs the book several times.

Fun bad sequels? HIGHLANDER 2, EXORCIST: THE HERETIC come to mind.
some of sean connery's lines in HIGHLANDER 2, just... yikes
oh damn... no mention of TROLL 2 yet, somehow?! it wouldn't quite make my top 10, not due to lack of entertainment factor, just I've never had the urge to rewatch it
Never been able to think of Troll 2 as an actual sequel despite its name. Then again, I also expected Troll to be rereleased during the whole Harry Potter craze to try and cash in on that in some way.
you're right it's not a proper sequel is it... there's another unrelated film whose name escapes me which is apparently dubbed 'TROLL 3'
yeah the harry potter thing. bizarre coincidence. almost surprised there wasn't some kind of desperate money-grabbing lawsuit attempt
in no real order, and using "sequel" as the 2nd movie in a franchise and not something beyond that in a film franchise/ cinematic universe
The Dark Knight (2008)
The Godfather Part 2 (1974)
Aliens (1986)
The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Superman 2 - The Donner Cut (2006)
Kill Bill Volume 2 (2005)
Police Story 2 (1988)
From Russia with Love (1963)

14. Piranha 3DD (2012)

28. Futureworld (1976)
29. Wishmaster 2: Evil Never Dies (1999)
30. Boogeyman 2 (2007)
FUTUREWORLD gets a bad rep... I enjoy it
SLEEPAWAY CAMP 2 (and 3), real departure from the first. very tongue in cheek, but not quite to the point of being an obvious parody
any love for PSYCHO 2 here? I quite enjoyed it but nothing can touch the original

It's not even remotely close to the level of "good-bad" of the first one
It's a greatest hits of Birdemic, we meet a lot of the same characters, none who evolved since the events of the first film
There's a giant horrible CGI jellyfish - otherwise it's basically the same movie with no new ideas
The director knew what made Birdemic a cult movie, tried to be in on the joke & it fell flat on it's face
Very disappointing
^ I was joking. I hated all of them.

I agree that MAGNUM FORCE is the best DH.
I saw PSYCHO entirely too young (like - 7 or 8 at most), so was too immature to appreciate its smart direction and subversive approach at a first viewing, and into the bargain had already read about the twist in a book on film. Thus also - no shock value. I've revisited it in adolescence and adulthood and I acknowledge everything it does well, but it's an austere appreciation. It's just not possible for me to get too excited about it, having my first exposure being such a misfire.
PSYCHO 2 smartly goes in a different direction (while building on the foundation of the original), allows (or forces) us to sympathize w/ Norman again, and puts him in legitimately tense and suspenseful situations. I really dig it.
PSYCHO 3... then tries to return to/recreate the original, reducing Norman again to just... a psycho. It failed for me altogether.
IV is a semi-prequel that then kind of rewrites subsequent PSYCHO lore, but as it again sympathizes w/ Norman and strives to provide redemption for him, it's interesting and kind of satisfying.
The GVS remake does not exist in my dojo.
not sure why but I revisited the remake recently. to see if it was the same as I remembered. and it was - just as pointless. there are some films that should just never be remade, and that's one of them. there is no WAY vince vaughn was going to hold a candle to anthony perkins.
yeah I've also heard #3 isn't great...quite interested to check #4

I've been tempted in one of my 31 Films for Halloween marathon to do a "Revisit" catalog. Films that A) I thought was overrated on my first time watching it. B) A film I hated with everyone else at the time but now seeing if the film deserves reevaluation C) A film I've seen clips/parts of a film but haven't seen the entire thing.
Psycho (1998) was under consideration after the recent Shout/Scream Factory release.
