From The Wild Geese

Richard Burton: "No home address, probably sleeps on the crap table."

I misunderstood some things John Huston said.
CHINATOWN:
Jake Gittes: I just wanna know how much you're worth.  More than 10 million?
Noah Cross: Oh my, yes!

It came out very much like "My ass!"
It seemed like a very weird thing for Mr. Houston to say in a film.

The TV special THE RETURN OF THE KING (1980):
Gandalf: "Like a mariner in a mountainous ship."
It sounded like "a mountain of s**t".

An Officer and a Gentleman was on TV when I was a kid and when Lou Gosset Jr. said the only thing that came from Oklahoma was "steers and queers" I thought he said, "steers and quitters" which in the context of a military training program actually did make some sense, though I wondered why people from Oklahoma were notorious quitters.

That's a really great example. Actually I can imagine (and rationalize) Cross saying "My ass!" That's exactly the kind of thing a fat old rich guy would say to a preposterous underestimation of his liquid value.

I've been struggling to come up w/ a solid specific example of my own, but most of them probably are similar... a lack of clarity about the indirect ways that adults sometimes communicate IRL and in movies.
