Title: Potato Chip Flavors: The Good, the Bad, the Ugly
Post by: claws on November 04, 2023, 04:39:51 AM
5 most popular potato chip flavors here in Germany are:

1. Paprika

2. Hungarian (A variation of Paprika)

3. Salt

4. Peperoni (spicy)

5. Oriental (Don't like. They taste weird)

I don't think I've ever seen Paprika flavored chips in the U.S. My favorites are

Cheese & Onion

and Falafel Style

What are your faves? What is the weirdest chip flavor you ever tried?

I like salt & vinegar flavor. Also jalapeno and dill. I like either sour or hot flavors on chips.

Weirdest flavor? Nothing's coming to mind.

The Oriental flavored one we have seems to be based on Indian cuisine. It tastes mildly spicy, and has a lingering sweetish aftertaste, which I don't like.

We also have chips flavored 'African style'

It is a strange combination of spices, and also has this sweet aftertaste.

I have yet to find an exotic flavored chip I like.

I had hot dog flavored chips once. Not bad, for hot dog fans!
I prefer just plain ruffled chips, with some sour cream or bean dip.

Enjoy those: chakalaka is made from the following:

Chopped onions
Curry powder
Green peppers
Grated carrots
Tomatoes
BBQ spice, salt, pepper and herb seasoning.

Delicious.

I forgot about the baked beans part and it does taste good, even though I can't really eat hot stuff.

The Good: Burt's Lightly-Salted Microbatch British potato chips are the best in the world:

The Bad: Lay's spicy crawfish chips they sell at Jungle Jim's:

The Ugly: "Wow Chips," from the '90s, made with P&G's most fiendish creation, Olestra, which caused "anal leakage."

Doritos used to have a "late night series" where their scientists just went crazy.

The craziest one was the cheeseburger flavor, which really tasted quite a bit like a McDonald's cheeseburger.

The best one by far was the Jalapeno Poppers flavor, wish I could still get them.

I did try the cheeseburger one. Interesting but not something I would want to eat a lot of. Technically a corn chip.

weirdest was a recent one at a food show, lay's had an elote flavor. it tasted like creamed corn( which i despise) with a ton of red pepper and a vague cream cheese aftertaste. best at the show , oddly enough, was sweet corn, it actually tasted buttered and salted corn on the cob. i doubt either will hit the production line.

Not too long ago I said to someone that potato chips used to taste so much better back when they had trans-fats, and was told, "Oh, but that causes heart disease!"

This from someone who uses marijuana daily, vapes other stuff around the clock, weighs about eighty pounds too much, gets drunk every weekend, practically lives on fast food drive-thru fare, and never ever exercises. Yeah, the ingredients of potato chips are this person's main worry in life....

It's the most popular condiment right after mayo. Who doesn't like ketchup on anything?  :teddyr:

I like Cheese & Onion, Prawn Cocktail and Roast Chicken flavour the most.

The worst I've seen is when some company (Walkers I think (they go by the name Lays outside the UK) it was) brought out chocolate flavour crisps. I decided not to give them a try, as evidently did many other people as the flavour soon disappeared off the shelves and has never been seen again.

My favorite chips are: Lay's Sour cream and onion, Ruffles Sour cream and cheese, and Terra's sweet potato chips.
Weirdest chips I've had were Terra's mixed chips, which included beet chips and taro chips
Worst chips I've had were Ruffles Queso chips, and any Salt and Vinegar chips

The best chips I've ever had were Walker's Roast Chicken.

The worst: Paint chips, though I did enjoy the texture of the latex. I just felt stupid after eating the lead flavor.

Funny, I'm a vegetarian but some of the better flavored chips I've encountered have been meat types.

Ghost Pops: been around a long time until the release of a certain movie in 1984 sent sales soaring.

I usually stick to my favorite chips, but I went to a store today that didn't have mine. I ended up buying a bag of chili style. The same brand does a decent balsamic style chip (sold out), but the chili one isn't my kind of bag. Since I don't waste food, I ate it.

In the '00s Lay's had tomato soup and grilled cheese chips, both flavors in one, and it wasn't bad.

I like chorizo. We have Spanish chorizo here, which is cured / smoked. I use it as a flavor boost in other dishes. For example, I add chorizo (when available at home) to my ground beef when cooking bolognese. It gives everything you put it in a deep red color.
Usually, not much extra seasoning is needed, the Spanish chorizo is made with garlic and smoked paprika.
