As I kid, I'm told I was traumatized by BAMBI (a lot of kids were). I don't remember it, though.

These are usually non-horror children movies with traumatizing scenes, right? Well, I already watched horror movies as a child  :bouncegiggle: so yeah, they traumatized me.

Note: I watched most of these years after their original theatrical release in theaters or at the drive-in.

Let's Scare Jessica to Death (1971) - I was about six. Everything about Jessica traumatized me.
Jaws (1975) - Saw this when I was seven. Yes, I was scared to go near water after this.
The Exorcist (1973) -The ultimate in traumatizing. I was eleven. I watched the entire movie peeking through my fingers.

I did watch pretty much all Disney classics and Wizard of Oz growing up. None of those traumatized me, not even Bambi.

When I saw JAWS in the theater the first time, I tore my ticket into little pieces.

Not exactly a movie, because I haven't seen it to this day, but as a kid I caught the trailer of The Omen in the cinema, and it stayed with me for years.

I did the same with my Bambi ticket, when I saw it the first time.

not movies but the PSA 'educational' short films that used to get shown here in the UK on tv were on a par with any horror films.

there was one in particular showing kids getting electrocuted which used to petrify me.

check this out for example... this was shown to deter kids from messing around on farms

The ones with Rolf Harris are certainly scary to look back on, all things considered.  I do remember the ones with Donald Pleasance once with him as the voice of death.

This was a film I remembered watching as a child but couldn't remember the name of it. I discovered the film on VHS in the mid 2000's at Harris Teeter and happy to confront this weird childhood memory. That film was Making Contact (1985) aka Joey directed by Roland Emmerich.

It was an unsold TV pilot about a motor racer who has a car accident - it's implied that he dies - and when he revives, he's tormented by visions of a woman screaming, a haunted house and an evil little girl. Scared the crap out of me when my folks let me watch it.  :buggedout: :buggedout:

not sure if this counts, but the commercials for Gremlins gave me nightmares ---- which is probably why I still haven't seen it
