Title: New Year's Eve Plans
Post by: claws on December 27, 2023, 10:36:54 PM
We usually have a very small family get together. No party, no loud music. Don't need that. We will be chilling and, yeah, eating.

Classic German New Year's Eve food will include:

Salmon Sandwiches

Deviled Eggs

Pizza-style Puff Pastry rolls

Chili con Carne

You have New Year's Eve plans?

And we don't buy fireworks. It's a waste of money. We will be watching the fireworks at midnight though.

Nothing big for us.  Probably go hang with our church family and play some dominoes.

Our plans are a bit dependent on how ill Ash is feeling. If he is better, then he'll be in bed while me and my good lady snuggle up on the couch and watch some movies. We will see the bells in, in the traditional Scottish fashion (you open the back door to let the old year out and the front door to let the new year in, then toast the bells with an alcoholic drink (generally I have myself a whiskey). I don't think we will be going round the neighbours, which used to be the done thing when I was younger. You'd take a bottle with you, go round various people having drinks at each location.

Anyway, I don't imagine we will be up long after midnight.

If Ash is still ill, then we will be grabbing whatever sleep we can whenever we can.

My plan is to shoot off some fireworks after work.

Just saw this today.  I didn't really have anything planned for New Year's.  My cousin didn't have her usual NYE party this year because my uncle died in early December and a party was a bit much for her.  I was awake until about 12:30am.  I went to bed about 10:30pm but just had a lot of trouble falling asleep.  Eventually reading a book for a while calmed me down enough to fall asleep.  A lot of times reading a book until I feel really tired then holding the book calms me enough that I can sleep.

Wound up staying up a bit later than planned and also leaving for Minneapolis a bit later than planned.  I went out to I-35 via US 20/218/18 then went home, with a couple charging spots on the way.  Left shortly before noon and got home about 9:00pm last night.

Yeah, I know NYE 2024/25 is about a year away but I think since NYE is on a Tuesday if my cousin has her party next year I'll probably go to that then come back to Minneapolis on the first.  Just have to see how the weather is when determining my trip down and back then.

I wound up spending most of New Year's Eve day helping excavate a 40 foot mosasaur (we recovered maybe 20% of the skeleton; there's probably more there).  By the time I got home and got my bath I was so tired I went to bed an hour and a half before the New Year came rolling in.

Sounds like a good use of your time to me.
