You're heading for a job interview and you can only wear one: either socks or deodorant. Which one?
Deodorant. I quite often go without socks.
I never wear socks.
Socks that I pinched off my landlord's washing line😳😉
Socks. I could never go without.
Deodorant is not needed when I use shower gel for body Odor.
Socks for sure. As long as it's not ridiculously hot, I don't perspire that much. But my feet feel nasty if I don't have a nice pair of absorbent cotton socks on them.
What is this thing you speak of? "Interview"? Sounds like a camera going someplace you don't want a camera going. Awake or not.
Is it just me or have you ever noticed heavy coffee-drinkers have a peculiar but not entirely unpleasant smell to them, a little like a burned aroma?
Maybe? I drink coffee a lot, however my sense of smell is rather good and I don't want to stink.
I don't drink coffee since I retired. Also it gives me the s**ts.
I hate the smell of coffee and can often tell a drinker from quite a distance, or if one has been in a room recently.
I have one cup every two days: I like a good cup of coffee but not every day.
I am still trying to figure out the first question. Are you saying I can only wear either socks or deodorant and nothing else, or I can still wear everything else and just have to choose between socks and deodorant? If it's the first, what kind of interview is this???
Regarding coffee, I only have a little in the morning because (TMI alert) it makes me poop and then I don't have to worry about that hitting me at an inopportune time later in the day. I think I smell fine. My husband downs it like water though and I don't notice a weird smell on him, but then my mom told me that when you love someone, you don't notice when they stink.
^ Girl, you are a treasure!
Is CBD the snake oil of the 2020s?
^ I dunno. I never tried it. I also quit smoking pot and drinking booze.
Congratulations, RC, you did what a lot of people who want to do those things haven't been able to. I hope it brings great benefits to your life.

Maybe? The 2020's have been (so far) really bizarre, so I won't be surprised if CBD is snake oil or not.
Ever attempted to have a long conversation with an AI program?
And, oh, yeah, I'm not answering my own questions, am I?
Let's see:
Deodorant
Yes, you can smell coffee on people.
It is snake oil, or at least greatly exaggerated.
Yes, I have had long conversations with AI.
^ Never.
Really? It's mildly fun on an irregular basis, kind of like talking to a teenager with a really low attention span and no clue about half what you're talking about, but who on the flip side oddly knows a lot about some subjects.
I never got past asking my alexa dot what day it is, & telling it to shut up every time it mis heard something on the radio.....

With Lent starting here's my question; do you consider seafood to be meat?
For me I do consider it to be meat.
Well, it ain't a vegetable or mineral.
Me? Yes. The Catholic Church considers such things, I believe, meat of a lower variety, so more acceptable, but as it also thinks it can turn wine into blood, why take its word on anything?
Oh, yeah, it is Ash Wednesday, isn't it?
Um, isn't it?
This site is a relic of an earlier age of the internet. Is it just me or was the internet more fun back when this place came to exist?
There was a time when the Internet was like the Wild West. In many ways it still is, but governments do tend to be fun police and are slowly taming it.

I dunno. There were more forums, that's fer sure.
Mega social media platforms are killing places like this. They are OK, convenient for communication with a large audience, but come with significant downsides we're all aware of. I do think the Internet was more fun in earlier times. Hell, Usenet was great!
Ever had a strong sense you lived in a location in a past life?
I've always been strongly pulled to London. I even somewhat knew my way around when I first visited there in the '90s, but had the strangest sense that it was different, it had changed.
Ever had any experiences like that?
I always felt I belonged in the 1930's.
That feeling is completely alien to me.
Reincarnation has always made sense to me, so for that matter has atheism and the idea life is a biological process of finite proportions, and honestly what I can't wrap my head around are the claims of my chosen religion, which seems to raise more troubling questions than it gives comforting answers. Ultimately I can't know the answers that preoccupy me, but for what it was worth, I did have those experiences in London, whatever they meant.

If you had the ability to turn your emotions off and on, is that something you'd do never, rarely, often, or leave it your default setting?
I think having a strong sense of empathy is the one thing that checks the amoral streak I supposedly have, so I think I might be scared to do it, honestly, but I can think of eras in my life where it would have been tempting. Like the second half of 2000, and maybe again in 2015.
Never. Who wants to be a zombie?
I really want to turn my emotions on more often. I really like wearing my emotions on my sleeve.
I am honestly very comfortable with my feelings.
I wouldn't want to shut them off.

Which do you use more, paper money, or pay by card?
I trust paper a lot more, so, it.
I do a mix of both although I am more comfortable with cash.
Card. I'm on SSI, and my monthly check is direct deposit. So I only pull out cash if I go garage saleing or flea marketing.
I mainly use my card over cash.
I use cash when I can, cards when I can't.
I asked this of someone today and she said, "What is this 'money' of which you speak? And where do I acquire it?" :bouncegiggle:
My card whenever possible. I earn points which I convert to gift cards which I convert to Blu-rays, books and CDs.

If you had the ability to turn your emotions off and on, is that something you'd do never, rarely, often, or leave it your default setting?
I would sometimes prefer to be able to defer emotions to a later time when appropriate. I have a really bad problem with holding back tears, even for non-sad just really joyful or moving emotional things and it's so embarrassing. I have to leave the room during movies sometimes so my family doesn't tease me. I missed out on some banger speeches at my cousins wake because I didn't think it was appropriate for me to cry more than his immediate family. If anyone has any tips I am all ears.

Card. Anytime I have cash when I go out I end up giving it all away to family, charities, or homeless people before I get home.
What do you guys think of Siskel & Ebert?
When I was a kid it felt like they'd always been around and always would, which isn't to say I adored them, but today they're nostalgic. That said, they didn't always have the best taste in movies, and were lousy prognosticators.

The only film critics I listen to are the people on this site: if you say that a movie is good, I will go see it and if you say a movie is 💩 without being good/bad, I won't go see it 😉
I guess they were ok guys. I never watched them too much.
Did you folks know Ebert co-wrote the cult classic BEYOND THE VALLY OF THE DOLLS (1970)?
^ I did not. I did have the thought that just as some people are seemingly born into the wrong gender, so Ebert was probably meant to be black. He was obsessed with black culture, married a black woman, kind of had a black vibe, almost all his close friends were black, he lived in a part of Chicago where successful black people tended to dwell, endowed a black college, consistently named black films to his best of lists, called Hoop Dreams the greatest movie of all time, and even said it was racist to have "blond" Arnold chopping off the head of a black man in Conan the Barbarian. I wonder if he were around today he would say he identifies as African American?
Was Anne Frank right in saying people are good at heart?
No. Some are, some aren't, although most believe they are good people.
Self delusion is a powerful thing.

Was Anne Frank right in saying people are good at heart?
No. She must have been, though- to have faith in mankind when she was surrounded by so much evil.
I think Stephen King got it right when he said the two warring natures in humans were GOD and DOG, though that demeans dogs, who unlike humans never act from motives of evil.
Alex nailed it up there, echoing a line by Patricia Highsmith that lodges rent-free in my brain: "You never meet anybody that thinks they're a bad person." Though that's a better generality than an absolute, for example I used to know a man in England who would enter these depressive states after his equally common frenzies of mania and tell me he deserved to die, that he was so bad a person he couldn't stand to live with himself.
Quite honestly, he died in prison.
I do admire Anne's idealism, and hope she kept it to the end, poor girl.
Burn out, or fade away?
I don't care.

Have you ever had someone close to you die young (say, under 30)?
I was thinking I've been lucky in that regard. Everyone in my family has lived into at least their 60s. I've had one friend die in his 40s and another in his 50s, but none really young.
My cousin Ricky Merchant hung himself at the age of 16 in a juvi jail in 1978. He lived here in Lawton, too.
Him and my brother Mike stole a car. Ricky went to jail. Mike went to NY.
My first fiance in 2000. He was a month from turning twenty-six. I was overwhelmed by sadness such as I never imagined could exist.

Yes. An ex boyfriend that I was still friends with and a cousin who passed from complications after childbirth. Both were very gut-wrenching in different ways.
I've lost a lot of older family too and realized somewhat recently how important their stories and perspectives are from the times they were around and I wasn't.
What I find really odd are the people who have made it to my age without losing anyone close to them. There are quite a few people I work with that told me that.
As far as folks older than 30 close to me...me sweetie Tara Sue, my Ma, my brother Richie, my Dad, my best friend Larry- too many.
A cousin who was a year younger than me and my daughter.

What's your favorite type of dog?
My first dog was a mixed breed who looked like a slightly smaller golden retriever, and I loved her.
We had a rescue beagle who was ok, but did one walkabout too many, fate unknown but afterlife as coyote poop suspected.
Our next three dogs have been Labrador Retrievers, and are probably my favorite types of all, my love for Charlotte Sometimes notwithstanding.
I prefer larger sized dogs. Little ones are too yippy all the time. Grew up with Golden Labs and always liked them, good natured animals.
My parents used to have this border collie that never fell for the "fake throwing the tennis ball"....
I'd fake throw the Frisbee, he'd look away, then look back at me....
I'd play "not in this hand, not in the other", and he's pretend to look around, then behind my back & make his "Found It!" bark...

I have heard those are highly intelligent animals. I've read they can even count sheep and know when some are not yet inside a pen.
My dog. A Chiweenie. It's half weener dog, half chiwawa.

Me, I was one of those cool kids in the smart classes. Of course we were always having to point out that coolness, because so many other students failed to notice on their own. Very puzzling.
I always say I was either the coolest of the nerdy kids or the nerdiest of the cool kids. In late high school I hung out with the punks because they were cool and interesting, even though I hated the music and thought the style was mainly a pose.
I was with the metalheads and goths. Punks and Mods had both faded away by then.
