Title: Chekoes?
Post by: pacman000 on March 12, 2024, 09:45:57 AM
This weekend I found a box for a game called "Chekoes." Sadly, the box was empty, so I didn't buy it. I'm having trouble finding more information on the game; it's a checkers variant with scoring, based on either moves or captures. The only reference I've found online is this old ad someone's selling on eBay: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam... (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=4&cam...)

Has anyone heard of this game? It was apparently made by Feature Games, the same company which produced "Bowlo" & "Chek-O-Rama."

I've had a search and got absolutely nothing on this one. Might be worth asking on https://boardgamegeek.com/ this site. I use it a fair bit, although I am not on their forums.

Posted a thread there just before posting one here. No response.  :bluesad:

I think I found the copyright registration: https://books.google.com/books?id=YXxaAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA638&dq=Chekoes&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&source=gb_mobile_search&ovdme=1&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiF0deSipGFAxXTLdAFHXIlCcoQuwV6BAgLEAc#v=onepage&q=Chekoes&f=false

Apparently, the game was created by a Henry J. Miller.

I recently discovered that a website I've been on for quite a while also reprints some old RPG books. I wonder if there is one that can do old boardgames? Mind you, I had a friend who used to love an old Battletech computer game and contacted the owner of the rights to see if there was any chance of the game being re-released. The owner turned round and just gave my friend the right to the game for free. Said if people still wanted to play it, he was happy to let them have it.

Maybe you could get equally lucky?

That would be nice; tho there's a chance the copyright was never renewed. (In the U.S rights holders used to have to renew copyrights after 28 years.) Finding that information would be a headache. Right now I just want to know how it was played. Still, this is a step in the right direction.
