Poll
Question:
Should political threads be banned for the upcoming election?
Option 1: Yes
votes: 10
Option 2: No
votes: 4
Understanding that there may be borderline cases that will be hard to enforce, I'm going to vote "yes," but I will abide by the majority decision. If political talk is temporarily banned, we can allow it again some time after the election is concluded.
There are plenty of other places on the Internet to discuss these matters.
Seeing how things kept getting thrown around I would say yes to err on the side of caution.
I could care less one way or another. But being some snowflakes can't seem to take critisism of their cult leaders, I suppose so.
Sigh, politics seems to bring out some of the worst in people here, but I'd still say no because I hate restrictions on expression.
In previous US elections we've lost one poster on average due to political arguments. I'm up for banning them.

here's what happens: RC says something really generic about Trump like "Trump is Hitler and everyone who votes for him is a Nazi", me or Cerberus says "actually that's not true" and then he, due to having no impulse control, proceeds to make defamatory statements about one or both us us, then Rev comes in like "I think we should lock the thread".
Yes please.
South African elections also take place this year and our country's future is worrying me 😔
Oh, please do... I come to forums like these to GET AWAY from the non stop political BS that has infested every other corner of the internet.

Just here? Pretty much everywhere. :tongueout:
It's hard to avoid political "echo chambers", because nobody wants to agree to disagree anymore...

Fear & anger have replaced logic & reason...
I vote no. But there does seem to be some bad times when people start flaming each other. I have my own beliefs but I don't need to personally attack someone for their own feelings.
I don't think discussion of world events, i.e. the Iran situation, should be covered under this ban (though it's easy to see them leading to thread locks). I was thinking only of purely partisan election posts. I'm not starting an Iran thread, but if someone else wants to I won't stop them.
