. Payphones- Why? People are glued to their phones and most are never calling anyone.
. TV sign off signals- The National anthem then- BEEEEEEEEEEEP
. Rotary phones
. 8 tracks and players (or cassette tape players and tapes)
. VHS players and tapes
. Candy cigarettes- that blew powdered sugar out the ends.
. Record players and records- LPs and 45s. Or record stores.
. Cigarette machines- Mostly in bars. But you can't smoke anywhere indoors except at home.
. TV antennas on roofs
. Burger Chef- And Jeff!
. Five and dimes (stores)
. Comic books sold at a newsstand
. Paper Halloween masks
. Magazine stands- I remember going to the news stand and they sold over 100 different types of magazines. Old West, crime, monster, comics, news, men's mags, fishing, motorcycles. Maybe they still have them some places, but not around here.
. Ashtrays in cars
. UHF channels on TV
. Video stores
Any more that you can think of? Most of the things are an improvement, but some I miss.

If it helps we still have record players in the UK. They've been increasing in popularity for the past few years. There is also a chain of stores called 5 & dime.

I think that was known as the Renault 5 here 🤔
. Record players and records- LPs and 45s. Or record stores. - Available here. There is a high demand for vinyl, with record shops popping up everywhere.
My niece used to work in a record player factory. Brad Pitt once ordered a special kind of record player when he was filming Inglourious Basterds in Berlin.
. Cigarette machines- You can find cigarette machines on almost every corner here in Germany.
. Comic books sold at a newsstand - Some newsstands sell comic books here, but wouldn't a comic book nerd prefer buying comic books in a comic book store? I can only imagine a newsstand having a limited selection of comic books. Why even bother with a newsstand? Unless you are a casual comic book reader, or something?
. Magazine stands- Decline in consumer demand. It's the digital age. Printed publications are dinosaurs deemed to be extinct. With that said, we still have newsstands here.
. Video stores - Obsolete, but we still have physical media rental stores here. I'm surprised people still go there to rent movies.

I don't see kids celebrating their birthday at McDonalds anymore. It used to be a thing until the 1990s.
I kind of miss phone booths even though they were filthy and usually vandalized.
Things that have become obsolete
Fax machines
Landlines
Typewriters
Calculator
Encyclopedias
Floppy disk
Camera
CRT TV
DVD
Getting film developed
Satellite navigation device
Ipods
Pager
PDAS
Public pay phones
VCRs
Alarm clocks
An apple pda on display
Cassette tape
CDs
Overhead projectors
Paper
Phonebooks
Smartphones
^ I still use a land-line. I don't have a cell phone.
Paper? Pretty sure paper is still around.
The one thing I really miss are video arcades. The only one around here treats you like a pedo if you aren't there for a kids birthday party.
^ No arcades at all around here. Reminds me though...
. Pinball machines. Dam. I loved me some pinball. Also-
. Juke boxes in the bar.
. Wooden beer crates. Made good knick knak shelfs.
. Columbia House Record clubs.- God knows how many times I ripped those guys off.
Oh yeah- I used to buy underground tapes from companies that advertised in Fangoria magazine. Like Video Search of Miami and Midnight Video, Sinister Cinema. Anyway, I would always get catalogs from all these companies in the mail all the time. They were fun to read.

Yeah according to the internet CDs are dead and obsolete. Apparently vinyl outsold CDs in the last decade or so. Walk in stores here have reduced their CD selection over the years though.

That actually happened to me about five years ago. I went to a mall while my car was being serviced and played a few games at their arcade / bowling Alley entertainment place. Played quite happily and was chatting to the young ones there when this rando approached me and told me to leave as "You are making the kids uncomfortable as you don't belong here."
I was about to say something when one of the youngsters said " F off. He's playing, we're playing and he's not bothering us at all. Leave him alone." 😊
I really miss walk in record / DVD / CD shops here as they have almost all closed down, especially places like Musica and Look & Listen.

my local HMV has a big section.

Ironically since vinyl became more popular it has led to me buying less of it because of the stupid pricing. Even 2nd hand, albums I could have picked up 5 of for £1 are now going for north of £20.
Surprisingly you can still find CDs and vinyls around. I know you can get CDs and vinyls from Walmart and Target, although it's a small selection. I know it's possible to get a record player from Walmart as I was able to get one for my parents for Christmas one year.

tbh I have never really owned much vinyl. went through a brief phase of buying it maybe when I was late teens, and some older (80s) albums I wanted hadn't yet been released on CD back then. but was never a vinyl junkie, always preferred tapes then CDs, now also mp3s
I had tons of vinyl back in the late 70's and early 80's. I was young.

that's another thing about vinyl - so difficult to keep in pristine condition, so easy to scratch / scuff etc.
recently found out my dad has a some cases of '45's from his youth in their attic (which is odd as he's never expressed any interest in music that I can remember)... sadly most Beatles and Stones 7"s aren't as valuable as one may think - I guess everyone of a certain vintage has them lying around somewhere :)
^ I don't think they're very valuable. Never did. I don't collect them for any monetary value.. I bought the 45's because of the cool old wooden fishing box they were in. I just kept them because...I dunno. Nostalgia, I guess. The only thing I have that's old that might be worth a little is old monster magazines and comics and books. Because I like books.

"Reports" about Elvis Presley sightings. I guess the joke wore off. He would turn 90 next year.

Bubble tea shops. They popped (no pun intended) up everywhere here about eight or so years ago. All gone. A fad, just like rolled ice cream parlors.

no idea... my guess is probably, although the whole style and humour seemed totally 1980s?
never even remotely had the urge to buy a copy of viz, yet I probably know about a dozen of the characters... THE FAT SLAGS had an actual proper movie I think
I've heard of the movie, and I think I might have even seen a clip of it. Not something I'd care enough about to look out though. I do vaguely recall a Billy the Fish tv series. Always felt Viz was amusing for about 5 minutes and then just kept going long after it had stopped.
Not something you see around anymore even if it is still going.
I don't remember seeing it for sale in newsagents even when it was popular... yeah definitely outstayed its welcome though

Public Domain movie compilations. Used ones are common, but new ones I've not seen in a few years. I have seen cheap films packaged with 4 to 6 public domain films. Then again, that may have been a couple years ago too.

The section on the film's production lists some of the real footage, & how some of the fake footage was filmed: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faces_of_Death

There was another film like this called THE KILLING OF AMERICA. Rattled the heck out of me 😳
Just reading about "Face of Death" made me feel icky; I do NOT want to click that link.
Yeah, fake or not, the whole FACES OF DEATH thing is just too icky for me. I've seen things in my life I wished I could unsee, I don't want to watch 90 minutes of that kind of footage.

I saw THE KILLING OF AMERICA in my hometown cinema in 1984 and I went silent for almost a day afterwards. I believe that it didn't get a cinema release in the USA. Not an easy watch and the ending is very sad with people gathering to celebrate the life of the recently murdered John Lennon.
I removed the link, I don't want to upset anyone as the movie is hard to watch.
^ I was aware of it being fake from day one. But back when it was flying of the VHS shelves, it was fun to see the reactions of folks who fell for it.
Now I had a tape called DEATH SCENES II which was all too real, and I watched it with Tara Sue and her son Jim. When Bud Dwyer pulled a handgun out of a paper bag and blew his brains out on camera, Tara popped the tape out and stomped it!
Can't say I blame her. Pure garbage.

We do get a light dusting occasionally. We haven't had a white Christmas in many years, though, and it's been ages since I shoveled snow.
^ Move to Michigan. You'll see more than you want.

When ever I went to the store to get pickles or peppers, their was always pickled pigs feet.
Not that I eat that s**t, but Grandpa Bonarski did at the dinner table at Christmas.

Anyway, I don't see it anymore. I'm sure they sell it somewhere- but not at any store I been to in at least 20 years.
They have pickled pig feet in almost every grocery store here. I know because my sister loves pickled pig feet.
I always thought there was a website called strangeland very early internet... and it was like a clown with green hair and it had really nasty articles and scary stuff whatever happened to that

There are two types of Liverwurst in Germany. Scalded liverwurst, fried.

Usually paired and served with blood sausage.
Then there's the Liverwurst spread. I prefer the smoked liverwurst. Sooo good!

^ I'll pass, thanks! I did like old Mother Moytka's home-made blood sausage, though. And served with goat cheese and home-made wine. She was Russian. She had no electricity, just a wood stove and a hand-pump coming out of her sink. She was in her 90's- way back in about 1974.
Dam she was a good cook!
