It seems odd, but I'll wait and see how it works out.
I'm so far behind on MCU stuff at this point that I'll probably never see him as Doom. :D
Kinda odd that they'd take the biggest breakout star of the Marvel Universe and cast him as a completley different character after they killed off his first one.
I am willing to bet in the comics at some point Iron Mad &/or Dr Doom have played each others roles and it will be some multiverse thing.

You'd be right. Apparently there is a multiverse storyline where Tony Stark was Doom in the comics, which they have no doubt taken and tweaked to fit the MCU.
I honestly don't know what to think of this. It seems like such an obvious cash grab to get the old fans to return, after the mess of recent movies and shows. Someone online suggested that Mads Mikkelsen play Doom, and that would be a fantastic idea. He is capable of portraying European old world charm but also bloodthirsty psychopathy, and is a highly bankable name. People would freak out for Mads to play Doom. If you're listening, Marvel, give it some serious thought.
I just hope they get this right. The Russo Brothers have been announced as the directors of the upcoming Avengers - Secret Wars for 2026, which suggests they will play out the 80s limited series that spawned Secret Wars II, the birth of Spider-man's Venom, and numerous other storylines. I'm old enough to have read Secret Wars when it was published in the mid 80s, but it's with some trepidation that I view this announcement. Doom plays a huge role in the Secret Wars storyline, but if they are bringing in RDJ to play Doom, how will this shake out? Questions, questions.
