I went with "like," because even though I don't often eat them that way, I won't turn them down. The Belgian/French sauce is mayo-based but has more ingredients, and it's much tastier than plain mayo.
I went with like as well, but with an asterisk; I prefer to eat them with Sriracha mayo or garlic aioli over plain mayo.
Either with salt and or tomato sauce: no mayo.
Hell no! That's like eating hot dogs with catsup!
http://www.steers.co.za has the best chips / fries 🤤😋
I've never tried it. I've never even heard of it!
I would try it, but till I've done so I can't answer either way.
Love mayo, but it don't love me back...
Gonna hafta go with plain...
Nope! I'll eat fries with ketchup or cream gravy, but never mayonnaise.

I didn't know that was a no no. Here in Europe, it's no big deal. One of the most iconic hot dogs in Germany is the IKEA hot dog, which comes with a choice of ketchup.

The legendary German currywurst has a ketchup based sauce

I've seen American tourists in Germany ordering carp and then asking the waiter to bring ketchup after their food arrived. Carp & ketchup: big no no but, whatever floats your boat I guess.

^ Carp is considered garbage fish here. No one eats it. Just like dogfish.
I usually eat hot dogs with ketchup. Helps cut the mustard's spice.
For awhile in the 19th century, Ketchup was used as a generic word for sauce; you had to specify that you wanted tomato ketchup. Before that it was made with mushrooms, & before that it was made with fermented fish.
Pointless trivia, but interesting.
Ketchup was originally fish sauce. The name is supposed to derive from the Chinese "kê-chiap," "brine of pickled fish or shellfish." As pacman notes, early recipes included pickled or fermented fish. It was both made from and intended for use with fish.
I generally consider ketchup a too-sweet garbage condiment, but I do really like it on fried fish. For hamburgers its ok, but given the choice I'll probably leave the ketchup off. It's also OK for fries, but I'd rather eat them plain than with ketchup. Hot dogs, never; mustard is too perfect, no other condiment should be diluting it.
French fries is about the ONLY thing I eat catsup on. Unless it's mixed with horseradish on Bluegill or Perch.
On hot dogs- mustard and onions.
On Hamburgers- mustard, cheese and onions.
Mayo I like on BLT's, tuna, on burgers with lettuce and tomato, and that's about it.
On lunchmeat it's always horseradish and mustard.
I have a big sweet tooth; I guess that why I like ketchup.

Reddit has a few threads about why carp isn't popular in the United States, but no one really knows why. Some complain they have too many bones. It is a popular food fish in Europe and Asia, though.
The Dutch have actually made a song about it
