well this sure looks like it's about to turn every slasher cliche on its head and be the most radically original horror in years....

It will be like a sprite swap, just replace Michael Myers with Popeye and call it a day.

Kind of a missed opportunity, methinks... there's plenty of authentic opportunity for horror in "Popeye": the witch, the Goons (who have enjoyed a cultural renaissance of sorts lately), the vulture or whatever the heck it is... or they could just turn it into a Cormac McCarthy nightmare on the high seas w/ lots of colonial racism and sodomy. I mean, being stuck in a cabin w/ Bluto alone would be a horror movie....... but surely we needed one more slasher film.

Even if you ARE going to make it a slasher film, there's still more angles you can come at it from this.

Frankly though, I'd say the best bet would be keeping Popeye as the hero and treating it like Evil Dead or Army of Darkness.  Let him be the cocky hero who's in way over his head fighting gruesome demon zombies of drowned sailors.

Yeah, I like that. Woody Harrelson as PopAsh suddenly occurred to me. He kinda' did that in the ZOMBIELANDs, tho.

I blame the horrible killer Winnie the Pooh film universe for this film becoming a thing

I think that's more quality than we can expect from that movie.  However I also feel that if you sent a message to the makers, they'd probabaly include it somewhere.

just watched about 1/3rd of this... no more.

exactly as you'd think... typical new horror stuff.

self aware, but doesn't do anything with that. I would say it's semi played for laughs, but what laughs? generic characters, occasional vaguely witty one liners.

very gory, but lazy in all other aspects.  not scary. lacking in any kind of distinctive tone or atmosphere.

so I bailed after about 30 minutes.

....but I've heard the finish is strong.

I'd like to see him be in a semi gritty action adventure film (Indiana Jones style maybe, but a little goofier).  Be more interesting than this.
