Curious what people think about this. One take I've seen is along the lines of "It's relatable that a father would do this for his troubled son". I don't see it that way at all. If it was any of us here we would be in jail already. It's particularly galling because of how well known Hunter Biden's issues are and of course Joe Biden's own involvement on the business side. A big thumbs down from me.
^ If there was any justice Donald Trump would be in jail right now too.
Or at least in a psyche ward.
He was facing jail time for a white-collar crime that is normally plea bargained out, solely in an attempt to "get" his Dad. More than anything, the GOP was angry because they couldn't find anything to impeach Pres. Biden for, so they went after his son.
In such circumstances, I understand the President's desire to protect his son, but it's bad look and a bad precedent.
Especially when he had said repeatedly he wouldn't do it.
He was pardoned of not just that though.
Given the Trump is focused entirely on retribution against all his enemies in his second term, I think that was just to provide blanket cover. Biden probably doesn't care if he gets accused or even jailed; he's 82 and the whole world will see such an act as the hate crime it is.
But he wants his son to be able to have a meaningful life going forward.
Like I said, it's understandable - but still a bad look.
I just wanna live long enough to see Trump die. I don't give a f**k about anything else as far as this country goes.
I find the language & scope of the pardon pretty fishy....
Good for the President. There's nothing more important than family. If I had the power to spare any child of mine from prison, I'd do it too.
QuoteGiven the Trump is focused entirely on retribution against all his enemies in his second term
A good way for Hunter Biden to avoid this sort of retribution would be to not do tons of crimes in the first place.

So would Jeffrey Dahmer's mother, that's not justice though. Also, Hunter is 54
At any rate, we are all okay because the gun Hunter bought was "thrown away in a trash can outside a grocery store 11 days later." https://www.npr.org/2024/06/10/nx-s1-5001231/hunter-biden-guilty

This thread is unwise.
Neutral view here: there are so many cases here in South Africa of people getting away with crap they do because of who their parents or families are and it is a little sickening to be honest. Also money talks above all else 😬😔
I believe the US president should not be able to pardon anyone.

It is kind of an odd rule.
if a convicted felon in Trump can be elected president somehow, then I have no problem with Biden pardoning his son
Both sides are embarrassing. All it does is divide us...
it's like watching a bad reality show LOL What a joke.

Trump was indicted on 84 criminal charges, convicted on over 30 of them and got elected as President a second time.
"Crime doesn't pay" no longer applies.

Thankfully, or I'd have been breaking rocks in Cornwall years ago.... :teddyr:

Right. Trump was prosecuted. Hunter Biden is avoiding prosecution, though. Biden's own DOJ brought the gun charge against Hunter, which he then pardoned him for.
I keep hearing this doesn't just cover Hunter's two convictions, but is a blanket for everything he may be indicted for from the past eleven years....
That's what really makes this unprecedented...
TO go back to my original response: It looks bad.
But given Trump's obsession with revenge, I can't blame the President for protecting his son.
Starting to remind me of The Ninety-five Theses or Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences.....
Oh boo f**king hoo.
Does anyone remember the Monty Python sketch "Upper Class Twit of the Year"? That's Hunter. His whole life is based on cashing in on his Dad's name. He makes George W Bush look like a rugged self made man.
What's the point? If Trump had done the same for his son, it would have been a Y.M.C.A. love fest.
Speaking of cashing in, if you want to smell like your god, add this to the shrine. It's only $99, or something.

Your such a snowflake.

IKR, leftists keep going on & on about how they're afraid Trump's going to do to them what they've been doing to him...
But seriously folks, I think they're more concerned about the incoming congress...
I think everyone's has their say about the pardon and fear thread may soon drift into the dangerous territory of general politics and flamewars.
Stories are now going around that others are asking for one of these "pre-emptive pardons".....
Sure have a can o' worms, here...
That can was already opened
QuoteIn his role as president of the United States (January 20, 2017 – January 20, 2021), Donald Trump granted executive clemency to 237 individuals charged or convicted of federal criminal offenses, using his clemency power under Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution.
I'll say it again, this thread is unwise.

Pre-emptive??? Before they were even charged with anything????

I actually agree with this statement only because this kind of topic causes division.
I mean the left and right
here can argue all day - (the ruling powers that be left and right) are not going to change LOL
you guys know that right?George Carlin said it best "it's a big club and you ain't in it you and me are not in it"

I mean does anybody here actually believe that? Do you really think you have like a team or a dog in this fight? Curious.....anyone?
^ Not me. I just don't give a f**k anymore. I've been poor no matter who's in office and survived, and will when both Biden and Trump are dead. f**k'em all. Neither one could survive in my shoe's. (oops- shoe) I'd like to see either one survive being homeless in NYC for even a day.
^ indeed

^ Gimme a break. Trump pardoned 145 people. AND he's not being tried himself now only because they're waiting until he's out of office, because he'd pardon his own fat ass.
