This was the first movie I saw in the new year, and it ended up being a pretty good watch. It is a remake of the classic movie, that so old its in public domain, and is one of the remakes that does justice to the original.
Visually, I like a lot of this movie. It still plays around with darkness and shadows like the original. Count Orlok himself is portrayed somewhat as a living shadow. Like moments in low light when you really just make out features. This is a vampire that is ugly to look at but it works for the film.
It does expand on some of the ideas in the original film, and gives one of the characters more of a prominent role.
A good classic-style gothic horror film. I'd see it again.
I love the original and have been a bit hesitant to see this. Not a fan of remakes or Bill Skarsgard.
I'd trust you, so maybe I'll see it once I can stream it at home

I am going to disagree with ya', Serpent.
Nothing in the movie really clicked for me. Maybe I've just seen too many versions of Dracula, but this one didn't feel like it really brought anything new and refreshing. The characters felt shallow except for the one guy who had the two kids. He seemed like he was supposed to be a supporting character, but he was the most well defined and interesting member of the cast.
I'm also really disappointed that they ditched the iconic Orlock design in favor of a guy with a big mustache and a fur coat that stands in the shadows most of the time. And there were a LOT of shadows. SO much darkness, I had a hard time telling what was going on in some scenes.
The whole thing though, felt been there, done that. I actually started to doze off in the theater a couple of times and I NEVER do that. I was watching the movie at 2pm too, so it's not like it was even late and I was tired.

I just saw some images and...no.
Probably for the best, then. To reiterate sentiments from the Theatrical Viewings thread, I saw it willingly w/ a gung ho party of three others who were really excited for it. They all ended up hating it. I wasn't impressed with it, either, though I don't think it's a complete loss... I just didn't feel like it was worth two and a quarter hours of my time. If you have your doubts, just wait for streaming when you can bail more easily. :smile:

If I'm gonna watch a movie called NOSFERATU, I better have a creepy vampire.
I thought he was incredibly creepy. Maybe not the iconic, bald, rat-fanged horror of the twenties, but hideous and so grotesquely dead.

I'm a bit with chainsaw midget. I've seen so many variations on Dracula over the years that it's sometimes hard for me to judge them for their own merits. In this case, I really like the visuals and that they shifted the protagonism to Nina / Ellen (I know, I know, woke alert, but there are only so many ways of retelling a familiar story and this one hasn't been tried before, I think).
On the other hand, I felt that some characters / actors were underused and, well, you know the story from the previous adaptations.
i rented this but i haven't watched it yet though it's got an extended cut on it too.

Much though I liked the movie, I can fully agree.
i rented the dvd from the Library and it's got both the extended cut and the theatrical cut. i heard it was decent though
So we got Peacock, and this is streaming on it.
I'm tempted to watch it
