It is definitely an American thing, invented by American pizza chain Papa John's Pizza in 1984.

Why dip your greasy pizza into a fatty butter garlic sauce? or ranch?
People on reddit say a good pizza doesn't need dipping sauce. I guess Papa John's pizza are too bland?
What do you say?
No. My favorite Pizza (I don't eat it often) is NYC pizza, and that's about it.
Depends on what the sauce is. I'm not a fan of bleu cheese, nor ranch. Garlic sauce I'm fine with.
NO!
Pizza is pizza, cheese, sauce & bread with accessories!!!
Why would it need anything???
Dipping sauce is fine (for the leftover crusts only, not the actual pizza), but far from a necessity.

You mean YES! (The question was "can you do without pizza dipping sauce"?)
I walked into a random pole the other day 😳😉
Yes. I prefer not using any dipping sauce. Even if you get a sauceless pizza an it's a chicken ranch pizza, I do without.
But I can't judge anyone who does. People like what they like
Nobody put wasabi?
Oh wait can I do without dipping sauce? Uh, yeah?
