Apparently his wife and dog were also found dead, which makes it seem like it may have been something along the lines of a Carbon Monoxide leak.

Yeah, I just learned of this myself.  s**t.  Goddammit.  f**k.

There is no other Lex Luthor than Gene Hackman.

So rest in peace Gene Hackman!

One of the true greats! I think his role in THE QUICK AND THE DEAD may have been my favorite.

That scene between him, Leonardo Dicaprio and Russell Crowe in the gunsmith's shop is great among many others.

'The French Connection' is one of my favourite films and the sequel is no slouch either.  Hackman is great in both even though by all accounts he didn't like the character.

RIP.

If he was found in or near a bathtub, well, the old-timers here know my theory....

Gene was found by a partially open back door Betsy was found in the bathroom (I believe on the floor)....
What we know so far, they tested negative for Carbon Monoxide, & may have been dead up to nine days...

I think the wife poisoned him and the dog, then herself.

Gene was 95, he just might have died of natural causes. The wife and dog are the mysteries.

That would seem to cover the facts that are known so far, but we'll see. Now that I've heard where his wife was found, I'm still not ruling out the prolific celebrity bathtub serial killer striking again.

He was found dead in the mud room, so near the door.  She was found in another room near an open pill bottle with scattered pills.  The dog was dead in a closet, but two other dogs were alive and they had a dog door.  They weren't found for over a week.  Pure speculation going on I guess...

Plausibly he was out walking and tried to come back in from feeling a cardiac event, and collapsed and died of a heart attack or other event.  She was upset enough when she found him she took her own life.  The dog was either trapped in the closet or crated, and died of thirst.

The autopsy reports on both Mr Hackman and his wife have been released: most upsetting. I read the account on www.dailymail.co.uk and it isn't nice to read. 😔😔

The saddest part, to me, is that he apparently wandered around the house for nearly a week after his wife died, too far gone with Alzheimer's to seek help, before collapsing and dying himself.
What an awful way to go . . .
