Title: "Crazy Horses" by The Osmonds
Post by: lester1/2jr on July 10, 2025, 05:05:53 PM
Anyone know this song?

One of my earliest memories is the popularity of the show "Donny and Marie" and I don't remember liking it. A few years earlier though, Donny and his band The Osmonds released "Crazy Horses", a rip snorting rock/ funk number that has more in common with the MC5 or Funkadelic than The Carpenters or something. Apparently the whole album is amazing I haven't listened to it yet.

According to Donny, the war cry in the beginning was achieved by running an Arp synthesizer through guitar amps.

I watched a couple of cover versions on youtube and no one else really does it right. It's mostly rock/ metal acts and they miss the funk/soul aspect. There's a popular version of this where it's essentially a 45 slowed down to 33, transforming it into a stoner rock sort of thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcG89tgEyNc

I thought of using this for a skate part but I don't think I could skate hard enough. "Earache my Eye" might be a better fit.

The drums kinda remind me of Shakin' by Eddie Money...

The rest of it kinda makes me think of The Village People doing a cover of Holy Diver......

This is one of my earliest musical memories. I was completely blown away by it at the time.

I wish that were my earliest musical memory. Instead it's "You light Up My Life" and the Annie soundtrack  :bluesad:

This is by far the best song I've heard in my life.
