Poll
Question:
Who do you want to win the big NYC mayor election?
Option 1: Zohran Mamdani
Option 2: Curtis Sliwa (Republican)
Option 3: Andrew Cuomo
Mamdani is a big rising star in the Democratic party. Cuomo is not a big rising star, but does have some relatively conservative support. Curtis Sliwa is someone some of us older members may remember from old school NYC re: his work with the Guardian Angels.
My father lives in Brooklyn, NYC. He never votes (long story: hates the govt and jury duty) but said if he did he would vote for Sliwa because he wants to make the subways safe.
Well, he is very progressive, like many New Yorkers. Superficially, he is the most obvious choice, so no surprise he is doing well in all the polls.

You're absolutely right, and especially not a man who has repeatedly refused to denounce the intifada, and who has associated himself with figures whose ideology contains a genocidal agenda. I'd have few worries about a politician of almost any other faith, but history has proven Islam to be a force that's incompatible with any non-Mohammadean civilization.
I've had good times in New York but wouldn't want to live there, so my opinion doesn't exactly count for much.

That was over almost 25 years ago. Radical Islamic terrorists. Not Islam itself. You may remember the Spanish Inquistion and the Crusades and witch burning was all done by Christians. To blame a religion of some madmen on the whole is stupid and bigoted.

To blame a billion people for the actions of a few madmen would be bigoted. To recognize the conduct of Moslems worldwide is not burying your head in the sand.
Recently more than one thousand rabbis sent Mamdani a letter asking him to allay the fears of Jews, the most persecuted people in history, by denouncing the Intifada, and Mamdani would not. That isn't reassuring.
As for the Crusades, what's often forgotten is they arose as a response to Islamic ethnic cleansing as Moslem armies serially conquered Persia, Damascus, Alexandria, Cairo, and swept across North Africa, a Christian part of the world for half a millennium at that point, before crossing into Spain and displacing Christian populations almost into southern Gaul.
The final fuse point for the launching of the First Crusade in the late 11th. century came only after Islam's ongoing efforts to conquer the world and subjugate all other people took them to Jerusalem, which had been in Christian hands since before the fall of Rome in 476, and was Christianity's holiest city, akin to Mecca for Moslems. To pretend the Crusades were an act of Christian aggression that fell from a clear blue sky is to show a woeful lack of historical understanding.
Islam seeks a political control over the globe that lies at the heart of its religious teachings, and accomplishing this by violent means has always been an Islamic tactic. No other religion has these practices. Islam is worrisome to say the least.
You're cherry picking. ALL religious texts are dangerous if you follow them verbatim. The Bible foremost.
Comparing Mamdani to an Islamic terrorist is like comparing YOU to Jim Jones. It IS bigoted.
I hate this thread. :hatred:
Cuomo pretty much did the same thing my (at the time) governor did, which sucked....
I don't know much about Sliwa, outside of he used to be the leader of a vigilante gang, & The Clash wrote a song that was supposed to be about him, but was really about Taxi Driver (1976), which happened well after they went pop.....
Mamdani is a rich kid who thinks nobody should be rich (Except him), a failed rapper and is the son of a famous film maker who hates Gal Gadot.....
Yeah I didn't realize it would go in this direction.
RC - I agree with you.

Being openly anti-Zionist is why a lot of people like him. Democrat support for Israel is virtually nil at this point.
LilCerburus -Cuomo has basically the same platform as Mamdani, though. Anti gun rights, high taxes. He is the one who started cashless bail as governor.
