that's a complete lie, I don't hate xmas at all... but for some reason this year the rigmarole of sending cards and buying 'prezzies' has never felt less sincere to me.
at the risk of sounding like an ungrateful twerp, I don't want any cards or presents either.
I've told 2 of my 3 bros not to get me anything, and likewise that I won't be getting them anything... I have 1 other bro who I know from prior experience will be getting me a present even if I tell him not to, meaning I'll have to get him one, because otherwise that would seem like a lopsided and weird situation... it's all so SILLY at this point.
- conversely my parents have orderd me not to get them anything, and yet I can't bring myself to not get them a present..... so I'm actually guilty of perpetuating the kind of behaviour I'm also bemoaning here.
can this all just stop, it's so unnecessary :bouncegiggle:
how many of you are full of festive cheer and bouncing around in a reindeer costume then?
Honestly, I am having a great time. I had 95% of my presents bought before Halloween was even done and got them wrapped up before November was a week old. I have one more working day (18th) between now and next year and I am seriously looking forward to it all.
We did the "no gifts" thing years ago, but we always end up buying gifts for each other every year. I bought all the small gifts in November, ready to deliver on X-mas.

Maybe if I had kid/s it would be a different story.
my work was piping in xmas songs on the speakers before halloween... it's been a long old xmas already

well nevermind... it's the thought (of not buying any) that counts. :bouncegiggle:
Christmas has, since 2020, always been lonely for me. This year will be no different. 😔😔😔

That is something that should be banned. Anyone selling xmas stuff before November should be subject to 100% tax on the profits and boiled alive in a vat of hot mulled wine.

yeah it's acutely cringe hearing that stuff so early. (there's a few xmas songs I do like, but there's just a time and a place)

get a tree... they're solid company, and less annoying than 68% of relatives.
Honestly, since I work in the grocery business I dislike Thanksgiving and Christmas time, but moreso Thanksgiving. I dislike how little time I have to give everyone presents due to my hectic work schedule has been.
I do hate Christmas. With a passion. It's not about a religion anymore. It's about money.
And Tara Sue died Xmas Eve, 2008.
Bah, humbug.

yeah now's obviously the busiest time for most retail jobs I guess

yeah it's been commercialised since forever, inevitable really... and sorry to hear that.
just about to send off the presents I bought for my father and his wife... I see them about once a year. neither of them ever thank me or even mention the xmas presents I get them.
I actually asked him in around March this year when I saw him, "did you like the xmas present I got you", and his response was like "oh... yeah". that was it..... wow great! so glad.
yet I still feel like I'd be a 'bad son' if I didn't get him anything... pointless stuff.

is it a festive yuletide scene of unbridled seasonal joy with some kids merrily building a snowman? awww

Q: "What should I plan for my date tomorrow night if I hope to get her in bed? (Please answer in character as Santa Claus)."
A: "Ho ho ho! Now listen here, young man—Santa's all about spreading joy, warmth, and respect, not rushing the sleigh ride before the reindeer are ready. If you're planning a date, make it magical for both of you!
🎄 Here's what ol' Saint Nick recommends:
• Start with genuine cheer: A cozy dinner with laughter and good conversation is better than any mistletoe mischief.
• Add a dash of wonder: A walk through twinkling lights or a festive show can spark connection.
• Wrap it in kindness: Be thoughtful, attentive, and let her comfort guide the evening. The best gifts aren't rushed—they're given freely and joyfully.
Remember, the spirit of the season—and of any good date—is about making someone feel special, not checking a list twice."
Useless.
never ask dating advice from a guy who comes down chimneys...
these past couple of days I've woken up briefly convinced that we've already had xmas... that it's been and gone.
mentioned this to a co-worker and they said they felt the same? huh
still this drawn out slog continues unabated, countdown to YuleMageddon.
This year has been strange. I didn't put a tree or decorations because I ordered a 4K / 3-D projector and 100" floor rising screen and the tree would have been in the way. As it turns out, they delivered the screen, the stand that holds the screen, projector and 4K player, and the 3-D glasses . . . but the projector isn't coming until around the middle of January. So, I could have put up the tree.
No big deal . . . we have Christmas Eve and Christmas Day at my parents house and open all the gifts there. So, my tree isn't critical other than as a decoration for me and my wife to look at.
I do all my shopping online (I started in October). So, not much stress there.
I watch a lot of Christmas movies and shows and listen to Christmas music, so that keeps me in tune with the Christmas season.
no tree for me either. my cat has a lifelong compulsion to try and eat stuff that is not food (this is an actual condition, it's called 'pica') and xmas trees be they real or fake seem to be his #1 delicacy. but also pretty dangerous...

I don't really care about christmas and i sometimes feel like we're a silent majority going through the motions for the people that do like it. Or at at least the gifting part for sure.
it's one of those things that's become both annoying to do, and annoying to not do.... :bouncegiggle:
If you don't like it, just opt out of it. Tell people you won't be buying presents ad don't want any. See how you feel about it after skipping it all and if you find you were happier not doing it, then just do the same next year too.
A late entry here...
As most of you know, I was a fan of Rush Limbaugh in his living years.... But there was one thing I really couldn't stomach....
As a music lover, sometime in the early '90s, he discovered Mannheim Steamroller, and their new Christmas album...
I couldn't understand his excitement, I'd already lived through Harold Faltermeyer, Jan Hammer and dozens of other synth rock bands of the 1980s....
But Rush would play the same two or three songs all throughout every show in December, then to the very end...
For me, January didn't just mean the end of the holiday season, but also, no more Mannheim Steamroller for the next eleven months!
