Title: Films you would like to see remakes of?
Post by: Trevor on December 25, 2025, 02:53:16 AM
There are four for me:

VON RYAN'S EXPRESS
THE EAGLE HAS LANDED
THE SHINING
GHOST STORY

All four based on books I loved but their film adaptations were a bit 💩

Not so much a remake, but Id like to see some of the special effects in Jaws updated. Not in the quite the same way as Lucas did with Star Wars, but just some more subtle touches here and there, like when the shark rolls onto its side to bite a swimmer.

MANOS, THE HANDS OF FATE. Great idea and atmosphere, but terrible execution. Also, not many movies had the balls to show that ending. I would love to see a fully-fleshed Torgo with proper goat legs.

Something just made me think of I Married A Monster From Outer Space, with the roles reversed, but I'm sure it's already been done.....

She was wearing a wedding dress in Species (1995)

She wasn't married, but ready to mate.

The Lost World

Neither the 1925 version nor the 1960 version actually adapt the novel.

The 90's TV movie did, but it felt underwhelming.

Island At the Top of the World

Story was right. FX were not. Disney would probably mess up the story today.

The Land Time Forgot

Decent version of the story. Bad FX.

John Carter of Mars

Good FX. Bad version of the story.

AMERICAN PSYCHO

not that I think it's possible to make a film of this book, but an adaption that is 500% closer to the source material than the version we got would be a start.

FEAR & LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS

same issue.  Depp is too much of a clown in this, as Bale was too much of a clown in AP

in both books these characters came off as resolutely deadpan and serious to me, despite the general absurdity and madness of the stories

I would love to see an actual remake of Plan 9 from Outer Space with a real legitimate budget and the kind of effects and actors that Ed Wood could only dream of having.

But wikipedia called it "a no-budget amateurish production," so it's not quite the same.

I think that was a quote from a reviewer describing the original:

"For a no-budget amateurish production, the original has earned a place in history that actually merits remakes"

True, but the remake is not exactly big-budget or star-packed, either. The Angry Video Game Nerd may be the biggest name in it!

The Amazing Bulk, by far the worst movie I saw in 2025, should be remade with an even smaller budget and even worse acting.
