Title: Joel sells out!
Post by: Sitting Duck on January 16, 2026, 07:46:40 AM
Not to Disney, though. So there's no need to panic.

That's great news! I love Joel, but he was no executive. He mismanaged the second incarnation of the show. Now there's hope for a more stable revival.

And now Mike swoops in.

Whoah! I was sure that would never happen. Continuity will be near impossible, but who cares? They already shattered their $20,000 goal (which I guess was a joke, because they couldn't have made 4 episodes for $5,000 each).

I'll bet Corman could have if he was of the mind.  :twirl:

First episode announcement is in, and it's Deathsport. Seeing as how this is one of the six movies that was announced during the failed crowdfunding of Season 14 from 2023, it seems probable that the other three will be the ones that RiffTrax hasn't handled yet (IIRC Battle Beyond the Stars, Battletruck, and Ballistica)

I'm OK with the other 2, but I hope they find something other than "Battle Beyond the Stars." I think BBtS is too good for MST3K treatment (though it's fine for Rifftrax, which doesn't insist on the "worst movies ever" motif). It's natural to think they would pick from stuff Shout! already owns the rights to. I used that as the basis for my guesses for Season 11 and turned out to be entirely wrong.

And now Trace and Frank are going to appear in the final episode as their characters.

YES!

... wait.  I should probably have a longer reply than that.

Awesome!

2nd movie, thankfully, is not "Battle Beyond the Stars." It's "Space Raiders," a BBtS ripoff!

"Gamera vs. Viras" is, I think, the only classic-era Gamera film they haven't done yet. Like a lot of the later films, there is a lot of reused footage from older films.

There's also Gamera: Super Monster from 1980, but we don't talk about that.

Third movie has been announced. It's Sting of Death, a mutant jellyfish monster flick from the director of Wild Rebels with a song written by Neil Sedaka.

And they're going to leave the fourth movie for a surprise, which I think is a good idea.

I pledged, i.e., pre-ordered the Blu-ray with a couple of perks.

Is it still possible to pledge/pre-order the Blu-ray? Or will it be for sale after the fact? Once I read about Trace and Frank, I was sold.

I don't think you can pledge anymore, but they will certainly be available for purchase after the fact.

And they send us the pre-ordered box set sometime in December. That's what matters to me. I won't be watching the episodes as the debut, I'm going to use that Best Friends sub to watch stuff I don't already own. So no spoilers!

So I gather folks who didn't back the campaign have a choice of streaming them by subscribing to Rifftrax (would take two months sub to see them all), purchasing downloads directly, or waiting until the Blu-ray is released (I assume it will be sold to the general public, but I'm not sure?)

The following should be spoiler-free. But since some might have different ideas as to what constitutes a spoiler, I'll black out the text anyway. Highlight at your own risk.

Saw this last Wednesday and it was a fun episode. The movie itself (from the director of Wild Rebels) was excruciating.

New hallway sequence has four sections. First a theater lobby, then a scene from 2001, then a scene from The Shining ("Come play with us, Mike. Forever!"), then a film repository (which had the Laserblast aliens during one passthrough).

Host segment count has been severely reduced. Basically, they are down to a prologue, an intermission, and an epilogue.

The opening shows Mike working at the Mooselick County Dairy Co-op. AFAIK there is no official word on whether or not it's the same place he was working at in 1985 as seen in Time Chasers.
