This was one of the last cinemas in Sunnyside, Pretoria.

I saw many films there as a student in the late 80s and early 90s.

Germany's local cinema scene—once defined by 'Village' and 'Suburban' theaters—began to fade in the late 50s. By the 1970s, the rise of home television had made these small venues a rarity. The last local theater in my area closed in the mid-90s, marking the end of an era just as giant multiplexes started popping up everywhere.

That said, our small town has a "movie theater." Never been but it is part of our town's local cultural scene. They show very local films (local dialect, with little to zero mainstream appeal) and short films, and sometimes documentaries, also strictly local.
