Title: Colossal (2016)

Watched this over on Tubi, and liked it for a different take on the kaiju film.

Ann Hathawaystars as Gloria, an unemployed writer with an alcohol problem that is forced to move back to her small home town.  Back home, she meets back up with an old friend Oscar played by Jason Sudeikis (whom I sometimes get confused with Ed Helms). During one of her drunken escapades she wanders into a school's playground. At the exact same time a kaiju appears in Seoul, one that is connected to Gloria. Oscar soon finds out he has his own avatar and this becomes one of those movies where the real monster is not the 175 frog creature. Themes of control, emotional and substance abuse and toxic relationships are central to this film.

First off the good.  There were some really strong performances in this film.  I like Ann Hathaway as an actress, so she was good in this. But I think Jason Sudekis does give a bit stronger performances.  You will hate his character, so good job there.

The two titans,  Gloria's kaiju and OScar's robot look ok.  They both have limited screen time, so they try to make the most of them. They are both CGI. The kaiju is a biped with a frog like face, cranial fins and gangly arms.  The robot looks a bit like a movie transformer. One its reveled what their origins are, their goofy designs do make a bit more sense.

Camera work is also pretty good, with some visually interesting shots.

My one problems is the movie is a bit too long. There were scenes that felt like they could have been cut or tightens up and the movie wouldn't have lost anything.

8 out of 10 if I had to give it a rating.
