Curious if anyone here has seen any of these films. There's been horror films based on characters now being in the public domain. The Popeye film is not included. Released so far:
Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey
Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey 2
Peter Pan's Neverland Nightmare
Bambi: The Reckoning
Pinocchio Unstrung.
Upcoming films include Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble, where they team up like the Avengers, as well as films based on Alice in Wonderland and Mary Poppins.
Peter Pan was good. Blood and Honey 2 was a better film than 1. Bambi was ok. Wasn't as bad as I expected.
Haven't seen any and I think it was my thing, frankly - but I would watch Poohniverse: Monsters Assemble!

From what I read, only the 1929 Popeye character is in public domain, but with restrictions? All side characters like Olive and Bluto are not, or something. The "public domain" on Popeye & Co. seems kind of complicated.
Either way, they are obviously cash-grabs. I'm surprised The Asylum isn't all over these.

I found a conflicting report that Olive and her family are allowed, but not other characters just yet.
The Winnie the Pooh situation was similar. Which is why in the first we only had him, but the sequel had Piglet. The third can add Tigger, etc, because their public domain dates are later. And even with that, the producers have to avoid specific Disney creations, like Winnie in a red shirt, or Eeyore's color, etc.

Sad. Fair enough though, but I thought Pan was the best one.

this is the only one I've seen, and they really did nothing with it, other than hiring a big warehouse and making a random horror film... it feels like a rough 'demo' of a horror film.
I saw there was another one out on dvd already, POPEYE'S REVENGE... and just looking on imdb there are 2 more coming: POPEYE REQUIEM, and POPEYE: RESURRECTION.

If Popeye is in public domain, Olive and her family are in public domain. The comic was running with them as the stars before Popeye even appeared.
I haven't seen any of them myself, but from what I've heard online, Shiver me Timbers is the best of the Popeye horrors.
It's also apparently coming out with a sequel that includes Tarzan and Betty Boop.
I watched the first Winnie the Pooh one, found it poor enough to kill any interest in watching more in that franchise. I've seen a few of the other childhood-based ones like the Micky and Minnie Mouse horrors, the Popeye one (watching it and then the sequel after atm), as well as the Banana Splits one that came out a while back. So far, the best I've seen would rate as ok, but not memorable in any way, but doubtless one night shift I'll delve more into the shared universe movies.

The Banana Splits one was actually really good, I thought. Gorier than I expected as well.
Of course, I say this having absolutely no emotional connection to the 'Splits before seeing this movie.

I'm pretty sure there's multiple movie studios doing different takes. There's 2 or 3 Popeye ones I can think of, haven't seen yet, but all different studios as far as I know. I saw some of The Grinch (Mean One I think it's called?) starring the guy who plays Art the Clown. It was ok enough.

Winnie the Pooh 2 is really good...comparatively. I mean, none of these are gonna win any Oscars. But 2 was an improvement. I didn't see the Minnie/Mickey ones yet.
