Title: to anyone who has seen Terror Firmer
Post by: ScottyXtreme on June 23, 2002, 11:23:53 AM
Saw it on DVD not to long ago and liked it pretty good.  To be honest though, one part really bothers me.  At the beginning of the movie, the part with the pregnant woman's fetus getting ripped out by the killer.  I know I probably sound like a weenie or something, but that part really turned my stomach.  I was wondering if any of you others on this board have any thoughts on this scene.  Personally, I wish they would have left it out.

Eh...it's Troma.  The thing with them is there's always this vibe in their movies that everything is just for laughs, so I don't really take it seriously.  A scene like that in a "serious" horror film would gross me out, but when Troma does it, it's no big deal.   The only reason I watch any of their stuff is for the gratuitous nudity.

To me, the funniest things are the ones that are so depraved and unthinkably wrong. If it's disturbing or downright grotesque, I'm there. Besides, this is Troma, and they'll do anything to get a reaction. They've got a pretty straightforward liberal agenda, so there's probably something in the script alluding to the halt of bringing another child into this overpopulated world or something.

Scott,if you thought that "Terror Firmer"'s fetus ripping scene was bad,go out of your way to seek "Forever Evil" and "Anthropophagus"(a.k.a.:"The Grim Reaper",Uncut),which both have similarly nauseaous fetus rippings.
And,while I'm at it,"Cannibal Campout" has two crazed psychos not only rip out a woman's fetus, but force her--------to eat it!!!
Now,how's that for  extremely bad taste ?!

Troma, DEAD ALIVE, and some of these other films remind me of some of the Monty Python sketches.  Which is fine, but it ain't really horror.

However, I thought the escalator scene in TERROR FIRMER was great!

just took a look at the de-baby scene...everything is so fakey that it is pretty funny in a these-people-are-twisted way...whereas if it was done "seriously" in a silence of the lambs-type way, that would probably just be plain disturbing.

BUT!!!! the truly disturbing thing in terror firmer is that fat guy with the little...nub...or whatever the hell that is...

...seriously...what the hell...that "guy" is missing some pretty important parts!!!!!

Oh man, I had been trying to block that scene out from my memory...

From the commentary track, I think the editors have been trying to do the same.

What's really scary is the bonus "Making-of" documentary.  90 minutes of Lloyd Kaufman brow-beating everyone.....

Like the kid with the fire extinguisher.  That guy couldn't get his very simple and very quick part right until like the 50th try or something.

I could watch a whole non-fiction movie ABOUT troma making a movie.

so many times when i'm hating my job, i think "how cool (STRANGE) it would be to work at troma."

i just got kaufman's book. it's a fun read. only bad thing is that it was written before terror firmer...
