Title: Is it too late for a Resident Evil topic?
Post by: Neville on July 01, 2002, 01:32:13 PM
I mean, I heard most of you saw it months ago, but it was not until last weekend that it was released here (Spain). Here's what I think of it:

Pros:

- Adult, stylish, even a bit intelligent.

- Loved the look, the pace and the game about those who had forgot their identities. And Milla Jovovich, of course.

- Zombies looked OK to me as well.

- Quality entertainment, sure.

Cons:

- This is not scary at all! C'on, not only the gore has been cut, also the way Paul Anderson films the settings and the zombie attacks is quite superficial, never exploring the real horror of the situation. Where is the director of "Event Horizon" when we need him? Not here.

- The story and situations lack depth. The film would have been more scary if the makers had explored with more competence the company conspiracy or the zombie situation. I tend to prefer films where zombies are intelligent, such as
"Reanimator 2" or "Pet Sematary". I think it is more scary that way, but I admit Romero's "Day of the dead" scared the sh*t out of me as well.

Conclusion: I'll watch the sequel if they throw in more horror.

There's always plenty of time for any topic,no matter how old the movie is,a practice that I most recently found out about.
And,with "Resident Evil 2:Nemesis" being planned,as well as the upcoming video/DVD release of this past Spring's ("Resident Evil") film, there'll be plenty of oncoming talk popping up within the next couple of weeks.
                      So hang tight,and get ready....

WTF? RE: Nemesis? Are they not aware that is the title of the next Star Trek film? It's like Halloween: Ressurection. Uh, the last Alien film, which came out less than five years ago, was called that. Why the name change? Halloween: Homecoming was a fine moniker. I didn't even know it switched until I saw the trailer for Jason X. On RE, I thought it was pure garbage. The amnesia angle's been done to death, it wasn't at all like the games, and it spent way too much time ripping off movies like The Matrix and Alien instead of developing a style on its own. My Norm MacDonald impression: Which goes to prove my theory that Paul Anderson is a terrible director.

"Nemesis" is the name of the main monster in Resident Evil 3 the game.  So does that mean Star Trek stole the idea from RE3?
