Title: Men In Black 2....Is it worth it?
Post by: ErikJ on July 05, 2002, 07:41:54 PM
In my opinion....wait for it to come out on video and rent Star Wars instead. It made the whole love story of Star Wars:AotC look entertaining....and I'm being nice. I took my 9 year old boy with me and he wanted to leave half way through.
Don't get me wrong it has it's high points but most of you have seen them in the previews. After that they are very few and in between.
Any other thoughts?

the l.a. times ran a review on the movie and called it a "big can of worms" if i remember correctly..and whoever wrote the first movie opted out on the sequel, leaving mIIb with some pretty lame one liners.
I'll still be seeing it though.
Bad Movies are my life
or my life is a bad movie
something like that:)

Pretty much what people say.  Not as good as the first.

I still found it worthwhile, but it seems that the joie de vivre is gone.  I think it's mainly due to the fact that the first had a strong "fish out of water" vibe going to it.  In the first, our journey into the Men In Black world was mirrored by Will Smith's character.  In the second, it's all established already.  It's familiar, which is something it shouldn't be.

Also, there is an uneasy mix between sentimentality and sarcasm.  The first's attitude is pretty much summed up in, "Well, you know what they say.  It's better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all."

"Try it."

But it's minor quibbles.  If you want a fun no-brainer time at the movies, see this on a crowded weekend night.  It's nothing special, but there you go.
