Title: SCi-Fi Channel, will you ever learn?
Post by: J.R. on July 10, 2002, 06:01:57 AM
Sigh. Just read that Sci-Fi Channel will make a series based on Tremors. I can see it now: C. Thomas Howell and Kari Wuhrer driving around in the desert fighting CGI graboids that look about as real as the monkey thing from Lost in Space spewing dialogue Joe Esterhaz would be ashamed of.

I don't know why everyone hates tremors 2. I loved it. Given its no where near as good as the first one, Its great fun to watch I think. I feel the same way about tremors 3.

Curse you, Sci-Fi Channel! Keep yer grubby hands off! First, you dumped all the Genre related shows (Sci-fi Buzz, Anti-gravity room, ect), dumped MST3K,  now you want to dump more crap on us. Leave your betters alone, and oh, BTW....enough with the Prison Escape in Spaaaaaaaace movies, ok-ey! Sheesh!

I like the entire series. Tremors 3, I felt, was the only truly weak one, because it was TOO predictable, and not even the occasionally good joke to make it interesting.

It's amazing how little I watch on the Sci-Fi channel.  Lets see, um, o.k. the last few episodes of Lexx, um, I saw B-5 originally and it's too soon to watch again, um, they did have a good Twilight Zone marathon on July 4th. . . Ouch, this is taxing my memory.  Why not have a "Roger Corman Presents:" night, with classic bad movies? And come up with some original series again.

What sort of story line could they have for a Tremors series?  Blow up the critters in a different locale every week?

I hope it's as good as that "Evolution" spinoff cartoon that comes on Saturday mornings on Fox.  LOL LOL LOL

"When an alien bug's living under your rug... say hello to EVOLUTION"

Considering how other SCIFI shows play out, it could be along these lines:

Our intrepid heroes will travel across the country destroying a series of mutating graboids, secretly created by the US military with alien DNA, while being chased by a relentless team of covert goverment agents who want to recapture the graboids alive for continued research as well as hush up they're existence.

or

Our heroes, working for a covert (meaning underfunded and disliked) government agency now, roam the country killing graboids and trying to cover up their existence "MEN IN BLACK- style" to avoid alarming the public. All the while, new more powerful graboids are being developed and released by a mysterious evil genius as part of some asinine plan for world domination.

or

Graboids are the foot soldiers or proto-colonists of an ancient alien race that seeded the planet with the originals in prehistoric times, planning to colonize the planet at a later time. For unknown reasons (possibly the planet seeders being killed along with the dinosaurs in the Ice Age/meteor strike/whatever), the most of the graboids have lain dormant until now, the ones from the earlier films being scouts or accidental premature awakenings. Our heroes must stop this invasion from within as well as find out when the Graboids' alien masters are coming back.

Ho-hum. SCIFI and USA Networks: give me a development deal or come up with something better than crap like this.

Based on the sequel they made to The Hidden, I predict that the series will have nowhere near the sense of humor the films had, nor the budget.

I like the Tremors movies. This series idea........can't think of any thing new, can ya' ya bastards! Yaddo42 is right. It'll ba just another Gummit conspiracy (Lke Burt would expect), and the mystery of the creatures would vanish. Hah, why don't they make a series out of DEEP RISEING..........DEEP IMPACT.........DEEP S%$#> Oh, sorry, thats already in the works! I need a beer.............................................................

I know! They can make a series out of Evil Dead! Judd Nelson could play Ash. The deadites would look totally normal except for a little gray makeup around their eyes. Most times Ash would just get into a fist-fight and end up driving the deadite off. Of course, he'd only meet up with a deadite every six episodes or so and most of his time would be spent with buxom young women looking for their fathers or something.

And don't forget that he'll find a way to replace his robotic hand with a REAL hand, and just wear a Motocross glove over it.

So long excellent one-liners that will be ripped-off for generations, hello ripping-off of Roddy Piper one-liners.

And of course Ash will discover his father (Ernest Borgnine) fought Deadites as well, and they will bond. Then he'll fight the deadite of the week, usually involved in drug trafficking or secret government conspiracies.

This is a little off the subject, but a few weeks ago, SFC started showing episodes of the cancelled Fox series Night Visions, an anthology show with two stories per episode. Friday night I tuned in to tape an episode I'd missing on Fox and intsead they played The Dead Zone. They took off a show that hadn't even aired all its episodes to play repeats of a show that's been airing like 5 times a week on USA!

 SFC is run by idiots!
