Here and now, we must do everything in our power to ensure that rappers do NOT appear in any more films. What little of Busta Rhymes is shown in the Halloween Resurrection ads is annoying enough to deter me from seeing it. And I wanted to have the Men In Black come and neuralize me after seeing the Like Mike trailer. "I-guess-this-would-be-a-bad-time-to-axe-you-fo'-your-autograph-huh?". Arrgghhh!! There are decent rapper-actors like LL Cool J, but if we let one get by the rest will follow.
We should include all singers. Do we need to see mandy moore, britney spears, even jennifer lopez for cryin out loud try and make more money by subjecting us to bad films? Naturally I avoid them, it's just the horror of knowing they're out there..existing on video store shelves.
Btw, wasn't it Ice T that used to be a pimp daddy? I saw some show on HBO about it. It was either him or a rapper that has a name like his. Ice T was the one in that movie with Gary Busy where they try and hunt him down in the woods wasn't it?
Well it's not a new trend, rappers have been doing films since the Fat Boys!
Yes that was him . It was called Surving the Game. Not too bad of a movie.
You guys are on your own with this one. I don't find rappers to be any different than most actors. A couple of good ones and a whole lot of bad ones. Same goes with singers or anybody who wants to get into the profression. The incidence of bad ones just seems higher because you already know who the rappers are, and are less likely to ignore them when they're bad.
Also, while I don't listen to much rap music, I have nothing against it. How come nobody complains when metal stars show up? Lemmy appears in a Troma film, and he's hailed like a conquering hero. Well, maybe in this case Lemmy deserves it.
Personally, I see the introduction of pop stars into the acting world as further examples of the increasing cases of inbreeding in the entertainment community.
I have a problem with celebrities being given movie roles just because they are celebrities. I think rappers bother me the most because I absolutely *HATE* rap. So much so, that I'll mute the sound or change channels during a movie's credits if they play rap. Most of makes me want to hit someone.
Yeah, if I see any kind of "hip hop" elements in a movie I avoid it. Just not my thing....I used to like it when I was in high school, but can't stand it now.
Rap and rappers don't really bother me except for the fact most of it sounds the same. But I can say the same about country and rock. I think a lot of them get involved in movies because they know they won't be doing it for long. They need another way of working and making money.
I'm no fan of rap but having seen 'Above The Rim' and some of 'Gridlock'd', I thought Tupac was a reasonably good actor. And Ice Cube in 'Boys N The Hood' too. Was not impressed with LL Cool J in Deep Blue Sea, but then that could just be the film.

I think the only rappers that have ever been good actors are:
Ice Cube (the creme de la creme), Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Marky Mark (hey, shut up, I like Wahlberg).
And Mofo, nobody complains about when metal musicians are in movies because they rarely are in movies that aren't documentaries. Lemmy is actually the only metal musician that comes to mind that has appeared in movies, but even then, he appeared in movies that were actually made with a fanbase that listens to Motörhead in mind.
>>I think the only rappers that have ever been good actors are:
Ice Cube (the creme de la creme), Ice-T, LL Cool J, and Marky Mark (hey, shut up, I like Wahlberg).<<
Dont' forget the most popular rap actor of the day, Will Smith. Anyone remember the "parents just don't understand" video's..lol
Hey Drezzy, how do you type an umlaut? I don't think rappers are acting because they know they won't be rapping for long. I think it's the overall arrogance that encapsules most of them. "Yeah, you know, I got 'da rap game, but 'den I got 'da actin' game. I like 'em both, dog. 'Cause I'm so great I can do anything."
Alt + 148 gets the ö
I feel like barfing after seeing the Little Bow-wow movie trailer.
Rap seems more disposable than other types of music, though. With metal, country, and other stuff people will remember favorite songs from years ago, and there are always a few artists who have long careers, but I can't think of many rappers who were popular 10 years ago who are still popular now, unless it's somebody like Will Smith who is mainly known as an actor. I agree with whoever said that they move into acting because they know their careers will be short in music.
sooooooo...when IS that EMINEM movie coming out???
-mr. henry
Really want to know. Go here. (http://us.imdb.com/Name?Eminem)
>actually the only metal musician that comes to mind that has appeared in
>movies,
Umm, I'm not an expert in this area as I never into metal, but Gene Simmons has appeared in a few movies, then there was Dee Snider's Strangeland. Oh, don't forget Alice Cooper.
I can't say anything about the subject that hasn't already been said--oh, okay, this: Marky Mark may be a good actor, but he's also no longer pushing himself as a singer. Spare me anyone who insists upon keeping a stage name with "Ice" in it; Ice-T may be okay, but with a name like that it's impossible to take him seriously, and people keep on confusing him with Ice Cube, who just provokes giggles.
BUT an easier way to access umlauts and so forth: find your "Character Map" in the Start Menu (mine was under Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools) and drag the icon to your toolbar.
I agree with the whole rapper as actor thing, with a few exceptions. But as someone else mentioned, why stop there? Can't we lose Roger Daltrey, David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Sting, Jon BonJovi, John Mercury-Cougar Melonballs, George Strait, Dame Paul McCartney, ANY member of N'Sync, and everyother blow-dried twit who thinks he/she is entitled to act because they sold a record? But, hey...I'm not bitter or anything.
And furthermore, most of the rappers that are cast in the movies are done so just to cash in on their names. Jarule(sp?) was hyped up as being one of the stars of the Fast and the Furious, but was only in it for 20 seconds (can't blame the crappy movie on him). Just cynical marketing. But, it works. I shelled out 2 bucks in 81 to see Caveman because I thought Ringo was neato (actually my folks shelled out 2 bucks..I was 6). Anyways, the only way to stop them is to find them, kill them, and eat them...who's with me? (crickets)

Singer/Actors are the worst â€" Especially the new “hip-hop†wannabe rap type. Let’s see we have Mandy Moore, Britney Spears and Will Smith. Mandy and Brit are using their influence over little 12 yr. old girls to empty their parent’s wallet, while Willie always acts like the Fresh Prince in every movie. Somehow that works for him though... there must be a huge Fresh Prince following. I’m just very thankful that no one has tried to make an N’sync movie.
Squishy, shut up...
we shouldn't do away with these people altogether...isn't this where a lot of the new crop of bad movies are coming from?...from musicians trying to break into acting?...ice cube was in "anaconda" right? andrew recently reviewed vanilla ice's bad movie...and 'ol 'nilla ice was in TMNT-2?-3?-whatever? i'll get around to seeing "glitter" at some point...that is supposed to be awful.
i haven't seen it yet, but that snoop movie (mr. bones?) looks to be "interesting" too.

So everyone is against, mostly, musicians breaking into acting. It's been done for some years but not to this excess - I mean now it's just another way for the narcasistic greedy tendencies of celebrities to manifestate. (same with actors who are turning to music. I mean did I have to be subjected to "Duets"? Not only an actress turning to music but a musician turning to acting (not his first go at it tho, but probably his biggest role)
Rappers pretty much always done it from Kid n' play to fat boys to ll cool j, list goes on. What about rock stars? Well - Sting has had a shot at it (tho i admit to liking The Bride). And..well what about the KISS movie? ;-)
Actually I think MTV has alot to do with it. singers make a video and feel like it's just basically a mini-movie. Video not only killed the radio star, but it created monsters!

If they can act, let them act.
If they can sing, let them sing.
If they can do both, let them do both.
Simple as that.

Anyone else remember the "good" old days, when any actor with a popular TV show went out and made an album?
>while Willie always acts like the Fresh Prince in every movie. Somehow that

I like Will Smith when he's not being a goofball. While I thought the movie itself stunk, I did like some of Smith's scenes in The Wild Wild West.
>i haven't seen it yet, but that snoop movie (mr. bones?) looks to be "interesting"
You mean Bonez? It was ok. Some parts were dumb.
>Sting has had a shot at it (tho i admit to liking The Bride). And..well what about the

I liked The Bride too. I also thought he did fairly well in Dune. KISS movie? You mean KISS Meets the Phantom? :)
Glam rock is not metal...=)
