Title: sequel question
Post by: Susan on July 14, 2002, 03:25:29 PM
Does anyone know (for sure) which movie has produced the most sequels? I was guessing something along the lines of halloween but sometimes you never know, could be porkies for all I know. I'm curious to see just how high they'll go (sequels can qualify as continuations, whether or not the title of "part 2" is in the title. A more popular way to show sequels is w/o the #'s and with a subtitle)
Reminds me of a scene in spaceballs I think where some tv announcer says "Stay tuned for scenes from Rock 5.........thousand!"

I'm not sure if all of the Godzilla films count as sequels, or just separate stories with Godzilla as the main character (like Tom Clancy's movies/novels).

You would be wrong with Halloween having the most sequels.

Now, I don't know the answer to this question, but I do know that Gojira has a bunch more (just in the first run of sequels alone.)

(This was written before Drezzy's post - I think that having the same main character, or characters makes it a true sequel, but that's just me)

Zatôichi monogatari, the movie about the blind samurai, has at least twenty.   Doctor No, the first James Bond movie, has had its share, too.

I don't think we'll be seeing movies with more than a handful of sequels again for a long time.  It's become too expensive to make movies now a days.  (Though if it does happen, it'd be with a Full Moon picture rather than a major studio.)

Porky's had two sequels before getting a far overdo axing.

Just so you know.

Well, if we count the Godzilla and Bond movies, it would be one of those.  I don't know if those are sequels in the popular sense.  Better categorized as series.

HALLOWEEN: RESURRECTION is the eighth movie, tying with the AMITYVILLE movies.

CHILDREN OF THE CORN, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET and POLICE ACADEMY all have seven movies.

I think the most sequels I can think of belong to the FRIDAY THE 13TH series.  Ten movies.  F13 also has the biggest breadth of any of these sequel poopers.  From summer camp to space!

I don't doubt porno's are are astronomical sequels - but I never considreed them "real" movies. It is interesting tho that usually the worst movies have the most sequels.

Speaking of sequels, anyone know the status on Trancers 6 or the next Bloodstone movie?

I can't find anything trancers 6 or bloodstone on upcomingmovies.com - there may be a better source for that kind of information tho.
