hey, the guy thats playing Bruce Banner is one of the guys from Black Hawk Down aye? i saw him on a magazine cover and he looks nothing like what i would imagine BRuce to look like.
He doesn't look like my image of Banner, either, but, then again, my image of Banner looks like Bill Bixby.
Give Bana a chance. He doesn't look miscast to me.
yeah, i suppose we cant tell till the film gets released aye
How does anyone know what Banner looks like? He looks different in every comic book. Give Bana or Banna (whatever it is) a break, he's already got the "BAN" going for him. Furthermore, there's no real way to judge how Bruce Banner should be presented. Are you looking for a wuss like Bill Bixby or someone more normal like Eric Bana?
Bill Bixby may not have been the toughest guy to ever livee but I don't think he qualifies as a wuss. But he did have a tendency to get beat up alot on the Hulk tv show, so I think I know why you think that.
The TV Hulk show (can't find it in rerun) was always disturbing. Someones beat him up or picks on a woman or kid and the weird stringed music starts, the eyes turn green..a slight scowl on the face..then from there everything is in slow motion. All his clothes rip off - save the crotch area. And there always seems to be a pile of empty boxes or trash cans conveniently placed wherever he is so he can throw the bad guys into them. Mostly it was alot of holding people over his head and tossing. Someone was usually unconcious - as where he'd..still in slow motion, pick them up with that puppy dog look on his face and carry them away. I can't put my finger on it, but something about that show always gave me the creeps as a child. Maybe it was bill bixby, maybe it was that you can only do powerful things in slow motion, maybe it was the fact the only incredible thing the hulk did was toss some knuckleheads into a trash can? But given the transition and the way the clothes ripped, it led me to believe that something wasn't so incredible about him after all. ;-)
Susan, you hit the mark babes... As much as I like the Incredible Hulk, the TV series was a total disaster. And yeah, the slo-motion thing really did get annoying. The Hulk who is supposed to be all powerful, moves so slowly that you lose the whole idea of super strength, speed (really, the Hulk is pretty quick and fast) and stamina. Whoever thought of this idea was a dunce because it's not appropriate at all. The Hulk's strength was greatly reduced due to budget and technology restraints, but what upset me was that he couldn't even take a bullet... Yes, he bled. And ofcourse, the whole tossing people around and flexing deal was over redundant. Bottomline, the show was cheesy, but I still watched every episode... don't ask me why.
I always preferred the idea that Bruce Banner was a total skinny weakling before he went all big and green. I thought that was the whole point - total Jekyl and Hyde transformation. This Eric Bana seems a little too stocky to begin with for my tastes. Rumour was that Steve Buscemi was originally earmarked to play the doctor.
We'll all have to wait and see.
I like Steve Buscemi and all, but he doesn't fit my image of Banner at all. Still say Bana's a better (maybe not perfect) choice.
Buscemi would have been an interesting Banner, but I can't see him as the Hulk. As I understand it, they are using Bana for both parts, using some new CGI trickery to make him big and green.
As for the TV show, there were a few other things that struck me as strange. Banner would always get conveniently tossed in a dumpster, locked in a storage room or stuck in some other private place to transform. He managed to live out of that tiny gym bag he carried around. As someone on the run, he always chose aliases that sounded like his real name - some variation of David B. For a quiet, polite person, he got in no end of trouble. Who else could constantly smile, apologize and appease, yet get the crap beaten out of him on such a regular basis?
I also find Jack McGee to be an improbable character - his newspaper paid him to travel all over the country to write Hulk stories everyone thought were tabloid BS.
The one good thing about the show was Lou Ferrigno. I don't think there was anybody who looked more like the Hulk. He was certainly the biggest bodybuilder of his time. Lou was a much better choice than Richard Kiel, who was the first choice for the part, or so I've read.
Is the Hulk going to be CGI? Does anybody know?
And buscemi could work if the hulk were played by vin deisel..who isn't overly hulky but compared to buscemi..well...
THe Hulk is CGI, I think (there may be some physical effects, but I can't say).
Funny, Buscemi was suggested as Banner in a line in Marvel's comic The Ultimates. Banner took it badly, he'd probably prefer Bana.
Watch Bana in the film Chopper and you'll see he can pretty much play anyone he puts his mind to.
As far as the Hulk being CGI, I wish they would look harder at different outlets. My point is there was a rumor of pro wrestler Bill Goldberg being cast as the Absorbing Man. If that was even a thought why couldn't they use another pro wrestler. Brock Lesnar would be perfect for the Hulk. Has anyone seen this man? All you need is green skin on this man and you have him.

For anyone who wants to see him
Strangely enough, I remember that Arnie Shwarzenegger was initially asked to play the Hulk in the old t.v series but turned it down because he thought he was'' too pretty''.
