When I was younger I remember watching a series that was on every sunday afternoon called Family Classics on WGN, and was hosted by Frasier Thomas- who was the captain from BOZO. He would show a movie every week like Treasure Island or 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea etc. etc. etc..
I remember a movie he had shown but cannot remember what the name of it was. It was about a group of people who get washed up on an island after the ship they are in wrecks. On this island they encounter some strange creatures. One is a giant crab that attacks them and they manage to get it flipped over before one of the men jabs a stick into his under belly. Another is a guy and girl find a giant honeycomb and climb up into it and fall asleep only to be awakened by a giant bee closing them into it for dinner.
If any of you know this movie let me know.
It's MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1961)

Now I was just thinking about that movie the other day and wondering why there was no review here. I really loved films like that. That chicken was pretty creepy wasn't it? I sure as hell wouldn't have eaten it afterwards
As you no doubt know by now, Gerry pegged this one on the nose. Neat little movie. Herbert Lom as Nemo. What a great casting choice! Lom improves every movie he was in just by being there (sort of like Vincent Price.) And the stop motion F/X were excellent.
This was a great movie. I wouldn't have eatten the chicken either but i would the crab.
Yeah. The music by Herriman did it up just right, too. Loved the Harryhausen effects. Old school goodness!
You got to love those special effects of Ray Harryhausen. The movie was based on the novel of the same name by Frenchman Jules Verne. One of the few French authors I care to read. By the way, I liked the book better then the movie. Enjoy!
