Is Roman Polanski's The Ninth Gate any good? (I've heard the ending is terrible)
I found it ok movie. The thing with the ending is that, it just sorta....ends.
Its a great build up to the ending and then...... plop! Its over and your left wondering, what the hell????
If it was an extra hour longer, it would have been perfect.
It doesn't end. That's the point. But those crazy Europeans always do seem to have trouble with endings.
I personally loved the Ninth Gate, but then again it had lots of old books. And I love old books. I wanted to go play with all those books.
And the nude scene with Emmanuelle Seigneur was nice too. She is very hot.
Hell yeah.
One of the best reasons to watch it!
I agree, just from looking at the box. Too bad Polanski already married her.
I thought THE NINTH GATE was actually pretty boring. It took me three viewings just to sit thought it, as in a half hour at a time. It built it self up to be interesting, but somehow wasn't.
The ending was actually one of the only things I really liked.
Speaking of Polanski....did anyone see his MACBETH? I thought that was a realy good rendering of "the Scottish play". The sword fight at the end looked good! It was coriographed as i think they realy fought at that time. What say you, good sirs?
All it does is...end.
Y'know, in Jurassic Park where there's a big build up to the dinosaurs and then they break free. If it was written by the people who wrote ninth gate then the dinos would just sit there looking menacing...but not actually doing anything and everybody went home, with out being eaten.
Big build up...
No payoff!!!
Man, thinking about it is getting me annoyed !!!

I've seen it. I enjoyed it. Though, I must admit that I didn't care much for the way the ending was filmed. I know that Polanski was criticized for the violence in the film. Though, now the violence looks tame. As it was made about the time that his wife, Sharon Tate, was murdered by the followers of Charles Manson, and critics thought he was venting his feelings about her death in the film.
