Title: Nemesis
Post by: Jay O'Connor on July 26, 2002, 05:56:14 PM
Well..watched some of Nemesis last night.  Not the whole thing.  Maybe I'll finish it off tonight

First off, Nathan, I think you were a little too hard in your review.  This already seems much better than *any* of the three sequels (Damming with faint praise I admit, but if you have the fun of catching any of them...you'll see what I mean)

Second, something about the pacing or staging or cinematography *does* remind me of "Omega Doom", another Albert Pyun post-apoc piece (which I kinda liked).  As a matter of fact, a few of the characters in this movie reminded me of androids from "Omega Doom"

Third, Olivier Gruner doesn't do *too* bad as Alex, at least in his body and face...  Then when he talks....um, did he know Enlgish when he filmed this?  Or is he just reading phoenetically off the cue cards?  I think he was better in "Automatic", but playing an android fits his acting....range :)

Fourth, Tim Thomerson dominates his scenes as easily the best actor in the cast; nice to see him

Fifth, I know I've seen Brion James act better than this, but it actually looks like all his lines were overdubbed in, or something... I know he's always a side part but...as one of the few faces I recognized, I wanted to call that out

Anyway, more fun tonight

Finish watching the rest of that movie,Jay,and see why it's one of both Albert Pyun's,and Olivier Gruner(the low rent Van Damme)'s,better movies.

this is creepy. for the second time i've reached into my archives to watch something rather obscure and it turns up being the subject of a post here.

haven't finished watching it yet though.

fell asleep. (hey, it was late.)

Finished it up last night.  I'll agree it's one of Pyun's better, of my limited experience ("Sword and The Scorcer", "Omega Doom", "Nemesis I-IV", "Arcade").  It was at least more cohesive than Omega Doom, for sure.

My only other experience with Olivier Gruner was "Automatic" and "Interceptor Force".  He didn't do too bad a job in this one

I was amused,in a "gimmie-a-break" fashion, at the ripoff of both Terminator and Aliens in the ending.

What was with the whole "men with women's names" fixation?  Angie, Michelle, Marion?  Even "Alex" could go either way
