Title: Incredible Melting Man
Post by: chopper on August 06, 2002, 06:14:04 PM
i finally got this 70's "gem" in the mail the other day. Classis schlock with Stan Winston effects. The story's stimple as allways from the drive-in era genre, a man goes into space and gets infected with radiation. he comes back to earth, craves human flesh, & melts more and more as the movie goes on. talk about hilarious acting, the scene that made me remember this movie from when i was a kid was the severed head floating down a stream, ha ha, awesome stuff, even at the age of five though i thought it looked fake.

Everybody seems to be discovering this one just now. One of the many badly lit monster flicks from the '70s. And it has the same ending as Blacula!

"I'm Doctor Ted Nelson!"

BLAM!

That is the greatest moment in any movie, ever.

I'd give a limb to see the MST3K version again...that, and their take on "Laserblast."

Yeah, this movie is great. I remember wanting to see it when it was originally released. I was 7 or 8 then and no one would take me cause they said it was a bad movie.
Recently, I've watched it and even showed the slow melt in the end to my friend. The MGM/Midnite Movies video I have (includes trailer), but I just got a German DVD of it called, "Der Planet Saturn lapt schon grupen". Wonder what that says....? The trailer is in Dutch. And the gallery is real cool with American and German ads plus press materials too.

ha ha, yeah the 70's seemed to have their special charm in their cinematic "badness." Squirm is another one of my personnal faves, great nature revenge flick.

That's a pretty sweet link, K-Sonic. Thanks! Eventually, everything under the sun's going to make it onto Region-1 DVD, but for those of us who can't wait (I already have "Futurama: Season One" from Amazon.co.UK, and "Godzilla: Daikaiju Soukougeki" will be in the mail soon from Amazon.co.Jp), and have an alternative player to use for Region 2 DVDs, these sources are wallet-emptying goldmines. (Hm. That doesn't sound quite right.)

I just wish releasers would wise up. I've heard many MST3K DVDs offer the "unMSTified" version of the movie as an extra; everyone else should cut a deal with Best Brains to offer the Forrester Version on the REGULAR DVD release. In other words, when, say, Universal puts out a new press of "Revenge of the Creature" or "The Mole People" on DVD, we should be able to select the MST3K version from the Main Menu. Don't like MST3K? You can skip it just like you skip all the extra crap on any DVD. And it's not like "The Mole People" would HAVE a lot of supplementary material, anyway.

Result: Increased sales for the DVD (I wouldn't watch the non-MST versions of half of their stable) and eventually every episode of MST3K would make it into release--without the idiotic squabbling over copyrights. Everyone wins.
