Like all remakes, this is a disapointment! To me the only good part was the moon effects!

I think that it fell about where I expected, since the original is one of my favorite science fiction films.  There was an older thread in which I mentioned some brief thoughts:

I watched it again and think that the Eloi might be more interesting in the remake than in the original and the neat globe effect around the machine was cool too.  Problem is, beyond that the original was a far better movie.   The relationship between George and Filby was perfect, as was George building a time machine just because he wanted to explorer - to know.

Guy Pierce is one of the coolest actors out there. How many people could pull off Memento? Anyhoo, why do studios keep remaking good movies? Why not take stabs at less than stellar flicks? Take Ocean's Eleven. The original wasn't all that good in the first place, so the chances of the remake being better were decent. Let's see if anyone has the guts to remake Howard The Duck, Master Of Disguise or Resident Evil (aka "Let's see how many movies we can rip off and have people enjoy the end product because of full-frontal nudity?").

I haven't seen the George Pal version, nor have I read the book.

I enjoyed the movie, but mostly because it set off a firestorm of ideas in my brain while I was watching it.  I was actually wondering what it would be like to evolve with a "hunter in the dark" haunting your mind at every moment.  Probably based on the physical anthropolgy course I had taken prior to watching the movie.

So I was interested on all the ideas the movie gave up, but never really followed up on.  Perhaps I would have been better served by reading the book.

So I enjoyed the movie.  Didn't think it was great, but it passed the time.

The original is no doubt a classic. I was hesitant about this remake, but considering it had Guy Pierce(sp?), I decided to give it a chance. It did have some cool moments but the script is so bad it ruins even the good moments. Maybe I should re-watch it but I wasn't sure what motavated him to head to the future(something the original made really clear.).

ok. I really enjoyed this movie!! I liked the first one also. I actually went out and bought the dvd (on the new one.) I just foward it to after he decided he can't bring her back and goes to the future for answers.
they could have skipped the whole "what if" at the end, but all in all i enjoyed it.
