Title: Favorite double feature dvd release
Post by: Brian Ringler on August 13, 2002, 11:31:13 PM
With dvd, many movies are now getting released as double features with other movies.   Many of these are set up like drive in features with many extras.  Just wondering what people's favorites are.

Mine are:

Boob Tube/Tunnelvision - both these movie are pretty bad and dated but its still fun when mixed with cartoons, old commercials, and an intermission

deranged/motel hell - not released for a couple weeks but I loved these movies and glad that both together will only cost about $10

I own others but those are the two that stick in my mind.

So far my most favorite and always watchable double feature is  Just For The Hell Of It & Blast Off Girls (http://www.somethingweird.com/2224.htm) from  Something Weird Video (http://www.somethingweird.com).

A close second is  Dead Men Walk(1943) & The Monster Maker(1944) (http://store.choppingmaul.com//index.php?SCREEN=item&sid=80NckX3dx7rPVlZ2&store=default&item=760) from the Roan Group. Two good old PRC movies that include George Zucco, Dwight Frye and J. Carrol Naish.

Ooh, and throw in  Indestructible Man(1956) & The Amazing Transparent Man(1960) (http://store.choppingmaul.com//index.php?SCREEN=item&sid=80NckX3dx7rPVlZ2&store=default&item=770). Also from the Roan Group. TATM is letterboxed and about 60 minutes.
The only thing with these Roan discs are they are double-sided. So you can only watch one movie at a time without having to flip it over to see the other flick. Who knows, maybe we're better off that way. ; )

The cheapo GUNFIGHTERS 4-movies, 2-DVDs I got the other day.
BOOT HILL/GOD'S GUN    &    DEATH RIDES A HORSE/BEYOND THE LAW.

Grainy, washed prints of four spaghetti westerns: 3 with Lee Van Cleef, 1 with Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer. Although BOOT HILL looks a little better than the others. Takes me back to watching stuff like this on my local NBC station as a kid on the weekend. Ah, memories......

Giant Gila Monster / The Killer Shrews

Now, if we could only get a decent transfer made of them, because the disc in question sucks in the quality department.

I know that a new version of "Giant Gila Monster" is available now and that it is supposed to be a good transfer.

Here's an up-and-comer that I just recently heard about: The Attic/Crawl Space !

Should make an interesting mix.
