Title: GI Joe: The Movie
Post by: Luke Bannon on August 14, 2002, 09:00:12 AM
I was wondering about people's opinions on it. My older brother, who's into 80s cartoons, got a copy of it yesterday and I watched it with him.. and I liked it! Sure it was cheesy in parts but it was good fun and I thought the fight scenes were cool!

Classic animated "masterpiece." Roadblock and Snakeyes are great.

Oh yeah. Plus Sgt Slaughter was really funny.

I love 80s action cartoons. They just don't make them like that anymore. I thought GI Joe: The Movie was fun when it came out. Now, as an adult, I appreciate the obvious Lovecraftian influence in it.

My only complaint is that it tends to mess with the established facts. Revealing Cobra Commander to be a member of some lost elder civilization is not quite as bad as revealing Connor MacLeod to be an alien, but the principle is the same.

I quote this movie.  A lot.  Except only one part of it.

"I was once a man!  A man!"

Am I the only one who thinks the part where Golobulis is attacking Flint, it sounds like his threat is "I will stain my hands... with your butt!" I know he says blood but man if you listen to it he sounds like he says "I will stain my hands... with your butt!"

On a side note: Nemisis Enforcer could kick anyone's butt!

Point taken. I agree that was one of the bits that was a bit cheesy.

True, Nemesis Enforcer is cool, but it doesn't change the fact Sgt. Slaughter kicks his ass!
"There are two ways outta my command, on your feet like a man, or in a ditty bag! AN ITTY BITTY DITTY BAG! GOT IT?!" Ah yes, macho b s of the highest order from the sarge. YO JOE!

Ah this movie was great. While not as good as the Tranformers' movie or as the slew of 5 part G.I. Joe mini-series it still had it's moments and is endlessly quoteable. "A gem of that size, answers, ALL my questions." It's too bad after this Hasbro got their hand son G.I. Joe and ruined the show. I really wanted to see how the show would have continued after the baffling events that took place in this movie. Oh yeah, no matter what kind of fancy nonsense voice-overs they placed in, Duke was supposed to die, so I say he officially IS dead. Bahah!

Be sure to catch the show being re-run on Cartoon Network Mon-Thurs at 1am. It won't be on for long.

Yep, Duke died, but after hearing the negative response to Prime's death in the Transformers movie they changed it. Sure, that's what people who get stabbed in the chest with a harpoon do, they go into a coma, right?

"Blimey, Zartan!" I wish Nemesis Enforcer had been a bit more intelligent, and the "Cobra-LALALALALA!!!" thing HAD to go. Other than that, it was a lot of fun.

LOL! But poor Cobra Commander. I dunno why but I like him a lot. He's miles better then most of the other Cobras, especially Mr. THIS I COMMAND himself Serpentor. Maybe it's cos CC has what Serpentor doesn't, personality.

Though I like the Dreadnoks too, especially the Baroness wise crack about  them "If you ask me some of them [primitive apes} did not evolve!" And you see the Dreadnoks scratching themselves etc.

Reminds me of Capcom vs SNK, this video game I play, where one of Geese Howard's famous quotes sounds like  "I will stain my hands..... with your butt!!"  but he is actually saying blood.  Maybe the voice actor is the same one from GI Joe the movie.  Does anyone in the movie say "You cannot escape bums breath?"  because if so then I think it is definitely the same actor.
