Title: Don't Moon Me, Moon Man
Post by: Squishy on August 14, 2002, 05:50:46 PM
From Der IMDB:

"Studios Plan To Unload Probable Losers: Castle Rock, one of the studios owned by AOL Time Warner, has decided not to screen "The Adventures of Pluto Nash" to critics prior to its release on Friday. Today's (Wednesday) New York Daily News quotes a spokesman for Warner Bros., which is releasing the movie, as saying that negative comments posted on the Internet about it reveal a "predisposition" by reviewers to pan it. Release of the film, which stars Eddie Murphy, has been delayed for nearly two years; however, a studio spokesman blamed the delays on complicated and expensive special effects. Meanwhile the London Daily Telegraph reported today that the buzz about Guy Ritchie's remake of "Swept Away," starring his wife Madonna is that it is "a stinker." It quoted unnamed insiders as saying that a test audience was "bemused" by parts of it. The movie is due to open in Los Angeles and New York on Oct. 11."

...

"Complicated and expensive special effects?!?" Have you seen the trailer for "Pluto Nash?" The FX look like they came out of "Starcrash" and it features a stuffed animal in obvious shrink-wrap passing for "frozen."

It sure doesn't look like Ron Underwood's best work. (Underwood directed "Tremors," "City Slickers," and "Mighty Joe Young.")

Huh...Madonna in a "stinker." I didn't see that one coming (snicker).

Uh-oh, I'm posting "negative comments on the Internet." Shame on me! I guess I'm shirking my duty to post fictional "buzz," like the filmmakers of "The Blair Witch Project" did--or the major studios, busted for phony reviews (and now phony Internet buzz!) are doing. Hey studios: instead of whining because we don't call it shinola, quit making s***. Then we'll stop posting about how s***ty your s*** is.

"Pluto Nash"
Looks like a desperate attempt to get Murphy back into comedy.

Saw the preview and was like "Oh....my....GAWD!!!"  This thing looks like a pricelessly bad movie, one I might check out on video.  It looks like a bad car wreck, you don't want to look, but you just HAVE to!

How much you wanna bet Madonna gets her latest boy toy to put her in all his movies?  Until the inevitable divorce that is.

No kidding.  But make more movies with Angelina Jolie and Milla Jovovich kicking ass!  (Don't care if they are s**tty or not if one of those two is in it.)

Is it just me, or am I the only one getting some serious "Harlem Nights"vibes from "Pluto Nash"? I think this will put Eddie down again for another couple of years, then he'll have another comeback film

You know, that could be the movie's plot.  He had me fooled for a minute there.

As I was ready it I was thinking, "Wow, it didn't seem that risque in the commercials!"  Then I got to the punchline

(I like the forum comments of the guy who hadn't read the review)

Huh, no critics allowed at the screenings.  Now that is an interesting caveat.  I wonder if amateurs like myself would qualify?

You'd be preferable. Less likely to butt munch then the "Pros"
