Recently Peter Jackson has been talking a lot about doing a sequel to his brilliant Bad Taste. I personally wouldn't mind seeing it, but do you think it may ever see the light of day?
By the time the full LOTR trilogy comes out, Jackson'll have enough pull for it -- especially if he does it on the cheap, like the original (or maybe a $500,000 DV flick). And he'll probably have enough stars willing to do a cameo...

i'd like to see anything done in the old-school peter jackson style...NO CGI...puppets man, puppets...
since LOTR should damn near make him a billionaire, i stick to my idea that he should buy an island, raise mutants, and use them as a cheap labor crew to crank out cool ass flicks like dead alive...

For his stuff they can be both crew *and* cast
It strikes me as damned if you do, damned if you don't kind of thing...
If it does get made, chances are it will be a slick Hollywood style R-rated production completely lacking in the gritty charm of the original (released on DVD unrated, if the distributing company is so inclined to do so). Therefore the fans will hate it. If he just shoots the thing in his backyard with a crew of slumming buddies then it might please some of the fans but many in the mainstream crowd will just go, huh? while many fans will complain it looks like a movie shot by a slumming director trying to see if he can catch lightning in a bottle twice. Then again I could be wrong, I would like to think so.
my 3-cents...
the guy's got money to burn...he probably stays in hotel rooms that cost more than half of bad taste's budget.
he could film something to completely satisfy the cult crowd and release it via dvd/vhs...
...he could...
i hope someone demented enough to produce Feebles can return to some rawer stuff...in a way you kind of see some of it with the LOTR dark horsemen and the hell-monster things...much better CGI (curses!) than The Frighteners flying-cape (oooh scary) villian.
so i still put some stock in jackson...raimi however is lost forever.

Well I heard him also say he would intend to film it like the first, at the weekends and he'd use the original cast for the rest of the boys, but he'd make sure he and they spent at least six months in the gym. Though I see your point.
THIS I COMMAND!

Trust in our lord and master; however he does it, it will be his, therefore good.
Raimi bashing?! Mr. henry, I wonder about you sometimes.
if your a Bad Taste fan (like me) you would like it even if it sucked.

That's a good point. Jackson has, despite going 'mainstream', kept a grip on his irreverent roots. However Raimi has made no bones about wanting a mainstream film career and never being a big horror fan to begin with. Evil Dead was made to grab attention, his next movie was closer in tone to what he really wanted to do (comedy), as was Evil Dead 2 (which I do not consider a horror movie AT ALL, just a wonderfully well made fantasy/comedy). Even Darkman was a calculated move to crossover and broaden his audience. Now apparently in charge of the Spiderman franchise I don't think Raimi will ever make serious his occasional comments about making an Evil Dead 4 and returning to 'guerilla filmmaking' because he was never that attached to it in the first place, it was just the way to get to where he wanted to be. Jackson seems a tad different in that respect, his love for it seems to run in his veins. His individualistic passion for his movies practically vibrates off the screen. Raimi is a tad different (how else can you explain him directing Kevin Costner's For the Love of the Game?).

Now THAT is what I call being a FAN!
Your opinion, while I don't know if I agree with it or not, I respect it.

Thanks, I was expecting a flame attack. Really.
I guess, in attempt to clear it up, I would compare Peter Jackson to the Coen Bros. Able to work within the Hollywood system, but still making movies that only could be made by them.
Raimi is more like John Carpenter, a talented filmmaker with a distinctive and someone personalized style, yes - but ultimately a director that makes movies that just about anybody could have made.
You know, I don't know if that clears anything up at all...*
and let me add that I am fans of all listed above and would pay full ticket price to see a movie made by them (except for the Costner starring For the Love of the Game, that is)
(*let me put it this way, if Peter Jackson had directed Spiderman I wouldn't have been at all surprised to see some insane in-jokes in it...like having the pre-sick Bunny puppet sitting on Mary Jane's bed in the background or something very much like that)
As much as I love THE EVIL DEAD films, it does seem that Sam Raimi is turning his back on what got him into the film industry in the firstplace. Ever listen to THE EVIL DEAD audio commentary of Sam and his producer/pal Robert Tapert? Let me tell you something, when Sam says VERY LITTLE on the commentary and Rob keeps on pressuring and giving more on the commentary that just shows you that Sam really is quite unimpressed with his first feature film. Hell, he doesn't even sound proud of his first achievement at all. And yet, as I listened to the ARMY OF DARKNESS commentary Sam was more impressed with that particular film. So, the evidence just shows that Sam is more interested in comedy/fantasy (i.e. EVIL DEAD 2, ARMY OF DARKNESS) rather that pure horror (i.e. THE EVIL DEAD). While I am glad Sam has stepped into the mainstream department and made a name out of himself, I think he needs to at least realise where he got his first gig and that was none other than THE EVIL DEAD.
Now Peter Jackson is really quite proud of both BAD TASTE and BRAINDEAD for these were the two that established himself in the film industry. Hell, BRAINDEAD was quite well recieved during it's U.S. theatrical release by many critics from Leonard Maltin to the Hollywood Reporter to Rob Sheiffel when he was on E! Entertainment TV. Not many movies, especially in the lines of content that BRAINDEAD has, get those types of raves here in the United States, let alone a $3 million dollar budgeted feature from New Zealand. One could say Jackson was a lucky bastard, but it is really his creativity and his love of the film, horror or otherwise, that made his earlier features successes.
Now if only Anchor Bay would quit sitting on their ass and release the uncut version of BRAINDEAD out on DVD, I would be a happy camper.
