i loved seeing don in that.
you name my 2 faves of his -- i would add disney's "the reluctant astronaut".
when the andy griffith show was originally conceived, it was first going to be a star vehicle for don & griffith was to get second billing.
knotts was a cast member for ernie kovacks, as was the guy who pl;yed earnest t. -- howard something -- who also directed most of the  mayberry episodes.
knotts had a wild career deviation in the late '60's, after andy went off the air, when he was adopted as a sort of guru by this community of beach hippies in santa monica.  what lsd drenched tales are yet to be told of that time?

I thought THE LOVE GOD was surprisingly fun. It's also about the "dirtiest" you ever see Knotts get.

I laughed my ass off thinking of Don Knotts as a tim leary-esque lsd hippie guru!!  He would have all those trippin ppl laughing their asses off with his pattented buggy eyed faces.  I'm surprised a tell all book hasn't been written by one of his stoner buddies at the time.

I recall hearing that John Waters and Steve Buscemi have been contemplating doing a Knotts biopic for years, but I don't know if that'll ever get past the "joke about it over a few beers" stage.

"I don't believe it-- Don f**kin' Knotts!"
"He's the coolest!"

His most recent work is some woodstain commercial.  He does the bugged out expression "What if it rains!!!" or something.

All that keeps coming to mind is the cartoon Animaniacs. They were always watching Don Knotts movies.

If one likes comedic horror films, I'd strongly recommend his "The Ghost and Mr. Chicken." As a film--just behind "The Ghostbreakers" and the animated "Ichabod and Mr. Toad'-- that is equal parts scares and laughs.
And if one likes comedic westerns, then check out his "The Apple Dumpling Gang,," if for no other reason then the cast, which also includes Bill Bixby, Susan Clark, Tim Conway, David Wayne, Slim Pickens, Harry Morgan, and John McGiver. Successful enough to spawn a sequel, "The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again," "The Apple Dumpling Gang" was at one time one of the highest grossing westerns.
And, of course, he was one of the many comedians in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World."
It is a common mistake, he made so many films for Disney Studios, but, "The Reluctant Astronaut" was not made by Disney Studios, but, by Universal Studios. Enjoy!

I think Buscemi mentions it in Bravo's profile of Waters; he says the two can never agree on who gets to play Knotts and who directs. Waters might mention it in passing on the Serial Mom commentary, too, but it's been a while since I've listened to it.

"Shakiest Gun In The West"! HI-larious!!! Don's his usual great self. "The Apple Dumpling Gang" is another great one. Tim Conway and Don Knotts are comedic geneiouses!
