Yikes. Will would be joining Vincent Price ("The Last Man On Earth") and Chucky Heston ("The Omega Man") in making the third go-round for this story. While Will can do drama, I have a hard time picturing him doing a serious "zombie-hunter" thing...

I read the script for it about three years ago. It was pretty much a combination of "the last man on earth" and "the omega man" it takes place in present day San Francisco and ends with a chase on an old trolly car. Hopefully, that script has been trashed by now. I can't see Will Smith playing the role unless they turn this into a comedy, have you seen his ears? Try as he may, he doesn't have the face for an action hero.:)

I am a great fan of the novel (That's where I took my nick from, BTW), and I enjoyed the script for the new version (www.script-o-rama.com). I thought the film could be interesting, because by then there were names such as Arnold and Ridley Scott involved. Now, hearing that Michael Bay wants to do it, I only hope it is never produced, even if they still use that script.

About Will Smith, What's wrong with him? OK, he's really annoying in his standard vehicle comedies, but his serious performances ("Enemy of the state", "Ali") are quite good.

Which do you think is better, THE LAST MAN ON EARTH or THE OMEGA MAN?  The first one follows the original novel more closely, but THE OMEGA MAN looks better probably due to its bigger budget.  It used to scare me when I was a kid.

Only seen "The Omega man", and thought it was just OK. Very seventies for my personal taste, and albinoes are not scary. My favourite version will always be Matheson's novel, highly recommended.

I've seen both the version with Vincent Price and the version with Charlton Heston. Liked the version with Price better, but, that may because I like Pirice better then I do Heston. Enjoy both!

Of the two, I go with the Price is right version.
....Omega man is more 70's Post-Apoc, and it loses something for me. But,hey, what ever floats yer death ship.

i like how omega man's "survivors" were more zombie-mutant than vampire. i just think all the crappy 70's cliches and stuff brought the film down.

"...But, hey, whatever floats yer Death Ship."

Hee hee hee. Gotta remember that one!

I'm not really fond of either version. Heston's "fortress" is ridiculously easy to compromise; the mutants don't nail his ass right off the bat simply because IITS (It's In The Script). Right then and there, "The Omega Man" is a lost cause, and the deathtraps and escapes/rescues that follow--up until the end at least--are straight out of Adam West Country.

It does have one shinning* bright spot: the score by Ron Grainer by "The Prisoner" fame. I wish I could get my hands on the OOP CD, but the last eBay auction that ended JUST NOW was at $65 with less than a minute remaining...

*Bart: "Oh, you mean SHINING."
Groundskeeper Willie: "Shhhh! Ya wanna get sued?!?"
