I know this is a little off topic but i was just wondering. mine is they might be giants i know that probably makes me a dork but whatever. just download some of their music is weird thats why i like it.
I saw where they might be giants is #1 in paid downloads, which is pretty funny if you think about it.

You write porn?
Shakira (I know, she's not a 'group')
Other than that, I like the occasional song, but I've never really followed any particular group.
I assume that question was directed at me.
Yes, I do. I have only published one story so far, in the book Eros ex Machina. It is out of print right now, but the Venus Book Club has just bought up the rights to reprint it for a book club edition.
I also write romances (none published yet).
Most of the bands you mentioned, Freep, are famous for their drummers. Are you a drummer or is it just coincidence?
For me-
1. The Ramones
2. The Replacements
3. "Weird Al" Yankovic. (yes, that counts as a band).
4. The Cure
5. Saves The Day
flogging molly is one hell of a live show, caught them at warped tour in minneapolis while it was pouring rain this summer
Here's my top five of the moment in no particular order:
The New Pornographers
Weezer
White Stripes
Cody Chestnutt
Phantom Planet
All time favorite: The Beatles.
Others:
Black Flag (especially the early Henry Rollins years),
Stiff Little Fingers (only heard them via vinyl, but they'd kick U2's butt, not an easy task),
Lots o' Blues folks: Muddy, Howlin' Wolf, Koko Taylor . . .
I got The Band's DVD, The Last Waltz recently and have been watching it a lot. The music's good and I like how it's not a linear concert.
Alot of these I don' t think you'll know but whatever
1)Five Iron Frenzy (funniest Live shows I've ever seen)
2)Relient K
3)Calibretto 13
4)Ben Folds Five
5)Weezer
6)Supertones
7)Blindside (old stuff)
8)White Stripes
9)Vines
10) Norah Jones
also really good is the Deadlines, I advice everyone to download it. It's Goth/Horror rock. Every song is about a horror film or a horror theme (Zombies, Vampires) and it sounds like old 50's horror film music Organ and all.

Ween
Frank Zappa
Clawhammer
Dead Kennedys
Arbus
Linkin Park, Reel Big Fish, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Nickelback, Tenacious D, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, Kid Rock, D12, Devo, Limp Bizkit and tons more for me to list.

You can see every song on my winamp play list here:
http://www.geocities.com/seamusreviews2/listed.html
there is a few more albums tacked on at the bottom but you get the gist of things, that I like punk, crap-punk, pop-punk, emo/indie rock, and SKA.
I know neither are bands but Tori Amos and Ani Difranco are my favorites. I felt I had to add a female perspective here. Also bands I truly dig are Sublime, Phish, Smashing Pumpkins, and my local favorite, Blue Moon Revue (http://www.bluemoonrevue.com) Check them out!
Deena
"Life is a B-movie it's stupid and it's strange, it's a directionless story and the dialogue is lame, but in the he said she said sometimes there's some poetry"
Ani Difranco 'Hell Yeah'
Frank Zappa ("Cheepnis" could be this site's theme song)
"Weird Al" Yankovic
Devo
They Might Be Giants
Deadbolt
The Bonzo Dog (Doo-Dah) Band
Barnes & Barnes
Also, I'm not sure I'd put them in my "all-time" list quite yet, simply because I only got into them relatively recently, but The Cramps and Jonathan Richman & the Modern Lovers are currently in heavy rotation in my car CD player.
Pearl Jam, Metallica, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Led Zepplin, Iron Maiden, Queen, the list goes on.
Oh yeah, Fozzy
I used to live with a couple of Dj's who were very into Bob James. Isn't that th guy who did the Barney Miller theme?
lately i've been listening to lots of David Gray, Van Morrison, Neil Young. those are some of my fav's along with Pink Floyd, Billy Bragg, Sparta, Thursday, and the Strokes!

3) Air Supply
4) "Weird Al" Yankovic
my two daughter's favorite band is "Weird Al" Yankovic.
I listen to music across the board, but here are bands I find myself listening to most often (meaning they have more than one song I listen to regularly):
Radiohead
Tool
Godspeed You Black Emperor
Fantomas/Mr. Bungle/Faith No More
Violent Femmes
P.J. Harvey
Prick
DJ Shadow
Soundgaren
Portishead
Leonard Cohen
Sigur Ros
Probably a-ha- I have amased a pretty large collection of every album, all of the rarer tracks + remixes, solo efforts from the band members, and lots of different live cds (15 different live ones I think) all of which are bootlegs of course. I'm also into punk and 60s music. So it's all a strange mix.
That doesn't make you a dork! TMBG isn't my favorite band but they write good stuff with smart lyrics that put most popular music to shame.
Ever hear the Pogues? Irish folk meets punk rock. They're my favorite. Also great lyrics, but you have to read them off the CD cover because you're not gonna make out anything from perpetually drunk and slurring lead singer Shane MacGowan.
Chadzilla: You mention Goblin which just jarred sometng upstairs. Goblin I think is a German band that wrote some songs - or maybe the whole soundtrack - for a bad movie from the early 80's. It was about a monster/freak who killed schoolgirls, until he came across a girl (possibly Jennifer Connelley) who could control bugs. Do you (or does anyone) know the movie's name?
That would be "Creepers," also known as "Phenomena" (I had never heard of it by that name until the rerelease). Here is the IMDB entry:
http://us.imdb.com/Title?0087909
That's it. I saw that one in the theaters. Donald Pleasence was in this too as I recall. Thanks.

Just out of curiousity, why does everyone like to post their playlists? Search for any song on the web and it's likely to turn up about 5000 matches, with 4980 of them being WinAmp playlists.
Acutally it was Taxi. Saw the man live once, what a great show!
yeah i have now seen them 5 times including back to back shows in may (santa cruz and SF) and july (2 days of warped tour). wierd to think people mosh to an accordian though
i thought that was a pretty good list then i saw tsunami bomb and the promise ring. PR is the only band i have seen get booed while they were playing. not sure why they were opening for bad religion anyways. also noticed some local acts too. are you from the SF area?
if you're into the pogues check out flogging molly too. "a guiness soaked musical body blow" according to their website. i would have to agree with them
cuz I was realllllllllly bored.
As Usual.
Goblin are Italians led by Claudio Simonelleti- (Know I'm spelling that wrong), they are still around, reformed. My favorite soundtrack they did would have to be for suspiria probably. All of their stuff for the Argento movies is great anyway though.)
I'll check it out. Still have to get MacGowan's latest with his new band.
In no particular order:
AC/DC
Pink Floyd
"Weird Al" Yankovic
White Zombie
Blue Oyster Cult
Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers
The Dave Clark Five
Duran Duran
Butthole Surfers
many others.
Though I am only 25 most of the bands I use to listen are a bit old. I use to joke with my friends that unless an album is at least 5 years old, there's no chance I'll borrow it.
1) Travis.
2) U2
3) Pink Floyd
4) REM
5) Dire Straits - Used to be a big fan in the early 90's, now i found them boring, but still remember most of their songs by heart.
6) Police.

Ummm....a five year old album is pretty new. U2, The Police, REM, are pretty young.
I'll co-opt Vermin's list as mine as well -- Bonzos and the Cheepnis song remark especially!!
To this I add Tom Waits & Todd Rundgren. Also the numerous Fripp/King Crimson permutations.
peter j.

Frenzal Rhomb
Foo Fighters

Shonen Knife (sexiest band ever)
Kiss
old Metallica (when they were a thrash band)
