Title: Did Devo make a movie
Post by: Luke Bannon on September 17, 2002, 02:46:39 AM
I'm not sure about this one, but I think I read Devo at one time or another made a movie. Can anyone confirm it or is it just the pixies playing tricks on me again?

We're All Devo is listed at the IMDb, and it says that the members of Devo are in it, but maybe the pixies are playing tricks on ME now.  Check it out for yourself  here  (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0217144).

(Again?)

"We're All Devo" is actually a compilation of Devo videos, with linking segments featuring the band, Laraine Newman, and Timothy Leary. I'm pretty sure they did do some short films in the late 70s, which were the original origin of their early videos (I think one of them was called "The Truth About De-Evolution"), but I'll be damned if I know where to find them.

That was very informative.  I didn't bother to check it out beyond it's existance.

Was this something you've watched, or just heard about?

Just remember, the  IMDb  (http://www.imdb.com) is your friend that cares.

Of course, its also a damn misleading friend who never has the answers I want.

The snot.

Anyway.

Glad I could help, Luke.

I haven't seen "The Truth About Devolution," but I'm pretty sure of its existence; I read about it in some history of music videos I glanced through a while back, and I'm pretty sure they have some stills from it in the liner notes of the anthology Rhino released a few years back.

I have seen "We're All Devo," however. If you like Devo, it's definitely worth a watch; the linking segments keep with the band's offbeat sense of humor (I think they were written and directed by members of the band), and the videos are still among the first and best of their kind (with snazzy visuals by the Subgenius Foundation!).

Also, if you can't get enough Devo on film, check out Neil Young's movie "Human Highway," where the band (and Booji Boy) show up to sing "It Takes A Worried Man." I haven't seen the movie, but the clip in question is included in "We're All Devo."

As you can probably tell, I have a bit of a soft spot for Devo. Their "Greatest Hits" CD was one of the first I ever owned (along with "The Simpsons Sing the Blues," both of which I got when I was 10), and any band who makes the lounge song from "War of the Gargantuas" their traditional closing number is in my "cool" book.

Agreed.
