Title: Everybody runs.
Post by: josh patrick on September 19, 2002, 04:14:40 PM
Has anybody seen minority report, i liked the movie, althought the ending was kind of boring. Did Tom loose an eye, im not sure, the eye did'nt follow the other one. The best part of this movie has to be the start of the movie. that's when well, i will let you see it for yourself.

I don't think Minority Report lived up to the massive hype or the gushing reviews I got from everyone I know who saw it before me.  It was a case of hearing too many raves and being inevitably disappointed.  I'm sure I would have liked it better if I hadn't heard anything about it.  Interesting concepts, good acting, didn't take itself too seriously, but they dragged it out and the ending was a disappointment.  Most of Spielberg's movies make me want to say he's badly over-rated, but then I remember Pvt Ryan, Schindler's List, Raiders, and Jaws.  Maybe he just tries too hard sometimes.

It's not been released here (Spain) yet, but I'm dying to watch it. C'on, I liked the previous Spielberg film, "A.I.", and this one has a story based on Phillip K. Dick's work. Dick is one of my favourite writers, an 'til now all sci-fi movies based on his fiction have been OK. Even "Screamers".

I liked it a lot, it was a serious science fiction movie released to mainstream audiences, and that doesn't happen often. My only complaint is that there are quite a few plot holes and head-scratching inconsistancies. For example-

*SPOILER*

How does Anderton get back into the police station using his original eyes in that baggy? He's wanted for murder, wouldn't the computer sound an alarm or something?

Early on they say that a premeditated murder causes a red ball to appear, and the head of Pre-Crime's murder was definitely premeditated, so...

I liked it quite a bit.  Of course, seeing as Philip K. Dick is one of my favorite writers, it could never be as good as I hoped it would be.  I don't usually like Tom Cruise either, but he was non-offensive enough in this movie.  Another plus.

Has anybody seen the re-issue of the short story "Minority Report"?  How do you take a short story and make it into a hardcover book you can charge $15 for?

I'd like to see somebody make a movie out of Dick's really bizarre books.  I heard A SCANNER DARKLY was being made into a movie.
