I went out la couple of weeks ago and decided to spend the money to buy Texas Chainsaw Massacre part 2 (the one with Dennis Hopper). I remembered seeing it when I was just a wee litle lad and to the best of my knowledge remembered it sucked -- big 'ol bucket of suck! Being of fair mind I thought I would try it again and I still think it sucks. I know Tobe Hooper said that it was "supposed" to be a comedy/horror but did anyone actually get that? I thought "Chop-top" stole the show (And how can anyone forget his habit with the coat hanger?!?) but there was nothing after that. I sold the film back to a used DVD store the very next day. Is there something I missed??
Of course, Tobe intended parts of the original TCM to be funny too, but it seems like nobody got it except for me!
I liked TCM 2, but I haven't seen it since I was 15. I thought Dennis Hopper was hilarious. Much better than the sequels afterward, and probably better than the remake of the original will be.
I love TCM 2, in fact I consider it to be one of the better sequels out there, but I can understand why so many dislike it. The movie is a rather brilliant black comedy to me, and the scene between Leatherface and Stretch is priceless. I still cannot believe that a semi-major studio release a mass market movie with that in it.
I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is just a retread of the first one, and not a particularly good one at that. I think my problem is that I watched the two films practically back to back. Give it a seperation of, say, ten, twelve years, and I might have thought it was, well, poor.
Hooper,I fear, was a flash in the pan. One great film, the rest mediocre to worse. I won't say he hasn't had entertaining films, or that through a fluke he's had another decent one. Just for the most part, his films haven't been what they should be.

I thought it was nowhere near as good as the first one, but it was still an entertaining black comedy. Any movie with Dennis Hopper vs. Leatherface is alright in my book, and seeing the Cook again made me smile.
Also, check out the clothes on "Nubbins," the corpse-- It's the hitchhiker from the first film!
Hey:I think that "Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2" is a very fun movie that I still thoroughly enjoy, despite its flimsy plot, and two sheerly terrible follow-up sequels, and an upcoming(whether we want it or not)remake of the superior original.
The video bootleg cut,as well as Anchor Bay's now out-of-print original director's cut contains a much more better body count, with a group of football fans(of a rival football team)getting a visit from, and gorily dismembered(with a head sliced in half)by Leatherface and his trusty ole chainsaw {while in a parking garage},Joe Bob Briggs strolling with two ladies by his side{before getting slain off-screen},and half of Chop-Top's body flying out from the exploding Sawyer clan home after it explodes.
Too bad they weren't included in the theatrical cut,nor on MGM's current DVD release, for they would have made the movie much more better, and way cooler than it already is.
