Next month the good folks over at Rhino are going to release "The Creeping Terror" on DVD. It's part of a four pack of MST3K episodes and the disks will include the films un-msted as well, plus whatever extras they managed to find.
Ah, one of my favorites and the film that started me onto all the other b-movies I've viewed. (must...contain...maniacle...laughter...) Perhaps this means more reviews of it will be showing up at various sites.
How many other folks out there have seen it? I've tracked down some old articles and reviews on TCT and I'm looking to gather more opinions and observations. Anything people have seen? Noticed? I'd even accept some insane ranting about how totaly bad and unwatchable it is.
Andrew, (makes deep bow) I humbly request that you might put this film on the bottom end of the very long list of movies you are planning to review, in the hopes that I might find out, someday far in the future, whether this motion picture is five slimes or a skull.
I am aware of the number of requests this site gets, but there is no harm in asking. Thank you for reading this long and mostly pointless message.
-----ooo-'U'-ooo------Kilroy was here.
They're also releasing Coleman Francis' "The Skydivers," which is one of the great overlooked classics of MST3K. I popped it in at about 3 in the morning for me and some friends to crash to, forgetting how damn funny the episode was, and we wound up watching the whole thing. Can't wait to see it uncut-- Bring on the pain!
"I LIKE coffee!"
I have been holding off on reviewing this (from a VHS) for a while in hopes that the MST3K DVD would come out and have the uncut version too. Once I pick up a copy it will become a priority. People throwing themselves into the slow moving creature and the shocking revelation that killing it was the wrong thing to do make this one a sure fire review.
Since they could not release the uncut version of "Manos" on the MST3K disc, I am finally going to give in and review it from a VHS copy. Why Rhino could not negotiate the rights for the DVD is a mystery. Maybe the Writer/Director/Producer had delusions of grandeur when they asked him.
*gasp* *gasp* OK, the hyperventilating has eased a bit...and I've cleaned up and changed my underwear. Bring on "The Creeping Terror" on DVD!!! God bless you, Rhino...
I mentioned this elsewhere, and it's probably never going to happen, but I hope beyond reason that the idea might catch on:
The studios are taking MST3K the wrong way. When they put a film on DVD, the MST3K version should be one of the extras. This would combine sales from those who want either version. It's not like "Revenge of the Creature" or "The Thing That Couldn't Die" is going to have hours of supplementary material, and there are probably more people out there who want to see the MST3K version of these movies than there are those who want to see the standard version. And there can't be more than five people on the planet at any given time who want to see "Hobgoblins" or "Time Chasers" in its regular format--assuming any studio actually owns the damned things...
Instead of pulling the rights back from Best Brains, the studios should be paying them a small royalty to use their shows to market their otherwise-unsellable crapfests.
Actually, didn't Fred Olen Ray release a special edition DVD of Hobgoblins just recently? (No MST episode included, as far as I know; pity)
Squishy is right.
....Seriously, who else would want to watch those cheese logs? MST makes this stuff watchable, and the idea makes other films watchable, as you can "roll yer own", so to speak. Some friends and i did this to "It: The terror from beyond space" (A wonderfully illiterate title if ever..) Humm...too bad Rhino and Best Brains diden't keep the franchise going.Doing direct to dvds of other films. Look at all the movies they never got around to...."Atomic Submarine....Fiend without a face....The Giant Claw"....I did my best with 'em....but i miss the that ol' gang of mine.....
